A large portion of Hampshire's marine industry has dropped anchor by the Thames this week for the London Boat Show, January 8-17.

More than 50 companies from the county are exhibiting at the Excel in the capital's Docklands.

Among those flying the flag for Hampshire are Sir Ben Ainslie's Landrover BAR Americas Cup team, Andark Promotions, MDL Marinas, Walcon and engine manufacturers Vetus.

The event is run by British Marine, whose managing director Murray Ellis is from Hedge End.

Murray said that the show was among the top ten in the world and he was expecting the event to attract 100,000 visitors over the next 10 days.

"This is a key event for companies to sell and launch their products and it also gives sailors an injection of enthusiasm in the winter when they are off the water."

The event was officially launched by Made in Chelsea star Lucy Watson. Among the other celebrities attending the first day was Downton Abbey star Hugh Boneville who appeared on the Sunseeker stand and spoke about his recent role as a pirate on US television.
