A CAT followed in the footsteps of Jess from Postman Pat by hitching a lift in a Royal Mail van that travelled from Southampton to Berkshire.
The Royal Mail postman was stunned when he found the tortoiseshell cat curled up in the back of his van in Langley, Berkshire.
Now the two-year-old moggie, which has been named Jess after Postman Pat’s beloved feline friend, has been taken in by Battersea Old Windsor cattery.
Jess’s 67-mile journey proves how important it is to microchip your pet according to Battersea’s Old Windsor cattery.
They say that only 15 per cent that arrive are microchipped. This makes it difficult for staff to reunite the animals with their owners Battersea Old Windsor’s cat rehomer, Tamara Willis, said: “We have a lot of characters turning up at Battersea, but this week we had our very own Jess the cat.
“Jess probably came from a loving home, but sadly her curiosity must’ve got the better of her before she got into the van and started her 67-mile journey from Southampton to Berkshire.
“Her long journey shows the importance of microchipping your pet, as you never know how far they can travel from home.”
