Tributes paid to lollipop man Raymond Elsmore killed after crash outside Queens Inclosure School in Waterlooville

TRIBUTES have been paid to the lollipop man who died after being hit by a car outside a Hampshire school.
Raymond Elsmore, 82, died at Southampton General Hospital after being in collision with a Nissan Micra yesterday afternoon.
Mr Elsmore, of Florentine Way, Waterlooville was working outside Queens Inclosure Primary School in Waterlooville at the time of the incident at 3.05pm yesterday.
He was taken to Southampton by air ambulance but later died of head injuries.
The 21-year-old driver, who was behind the wheel of a Nissan Micra, was uninjured in the incident. She was arrested by police and later released on bail.
In a statement, Mr Elsmore's family said: "We are shocked and devastated to have lost Ray who meant so much to so many.
"We feel so lucky to have shared our life with someone so fun-loving, happy, friendly and caring.
"We are very touched by eveyone's kind tributes."

However in the car-sick UK, road deaths are seen as 'normal', 'unavoidable' and 'acceptable'. Don't believe me? Read the papers or set up a search on the internet.
Drivers need to be made fully accountable for operating dangerous machinery in close-proximity to vulnerable human beings. The driving licence needs to be seen not as a right but as a privilege that can easily be lost. Causing death or serious injury by violence, needs to be treated extremely seriously by the Crown Prosecution Service and the Courts whether by motor-vehicle or by any other means. And those guilty of such crimes must involve lengthy incarceration, a heavy fine and permanent loss of licence. When there are aggravating factors, penalties need to be even greater.
There must be a complete end to 'discounts' for causing death or serious injury just because a person was using a motor-vehicle.

I just don't understand how this could have happened! The driver couldn't have been looking where she was going or else she would have had plenty of time to stop!!! If this gentleman had already seen the parent and child across the road, then he would have been in the road for at least a couple of minutes before he was hit!! So, if you don't know - DON'T SUMMISE.
You are condemning the girl without knowing the facts.
If she was the cause then, yes she will almost certainly be banned. but until such time as the facts are known, we can't be sure.
Just a thought, but who's reactions would have been quicker an 82 year old or a 21 year old?
Not saying thats the case,but a possibility nonetheless.
Still , whatever, a very tragic situation and my condolences to the deceaseds family.
