Cyclist and car in crash on major city route
A CYCLIST has been killed after a road collision with multiple vehicles on a major Southampton road.
The incident happened during rush hour on the A33 Mountbatten Way into the city centre at 8.48am.
The male cyclist - who was wearing a bright orange fluorescent jacket - died at the scene.
Two motorists have been arrested following the incident.
The road closure at the junction of Millbrook Road West and Regents Park Road for traffic heading into Southampton has been reopened, with motorists now being diverted along Paynes Road.
There is still a closure at Southern Road for all traffic coming out from the city centre.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes into the city, while bus services 6, 8, 9, 11 and 12 have been diverted away from the area.
Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the collision or who saw the cyclist prior to the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to ring 101 and ask for Operation Ruddy at the Road Death Investigation Team at Eastleigh.
