POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a young woman from Southampton was killed in a motorway crash.

The 26-year-old woman was a passenger in a grey Fiat Stilo which was in collision with a lorry on the southbound M3 yesterday morning.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Fiat was involved in a collision with the rear of a lorry before leaving the carriageway and coming to a stop on its roof. The driver of the Fiat, a 24 year-old man, and another passenger, a 36 year-old woman, who are both from Southampton were taken to hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Officers are appealing for other drivers to come forward following the fatal collision which happened between junctions 9 and 10 at around 7.40am.

The circumstances of the collision are being investigated, no-one else was injured. The carriageway was fully re-opened shortly after midday.
