RAIL services in Hampshire have returned to normal just hours after bosses said passengers could expect delays until Monday.

Customers were warned to expect trains to be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or diverted via Eastleigh at short notice because of problems between Southampton Central and St Denys.

A spokesman for South West Trains said: “Our signalling technicians have been working to rectifty a signalling problem in the St Denys area which is preventing us from running trains normally on all routes.

“They have identified what they believe may be causing the issue however it is a very unusual problem involving the signalling control software and as such may not be rectified for several days.”

But at around 4pm South West Trains said signaling problems had been resolved and all lines had reopened, although some small delays may still occur.
