DRIVERS were caught up in rush hour traffic jams this evening due to a police training exercise on a Hampshire motorway.

Officers were engaged in a series of rolling road blocks slowing the speed of traffic coming out of Southampton.

Motorists experienced delays on the M271 while three or four police vehicles took part in the operation.

A police spokesman said training could take place at any time.

The spokesman said at the time: "They are doing their training up and down on blues and twos. They do it anytime of the day and night.

"They can do it now because there is heavy traffic."
