A CYCLIST dressed as St George caused long delays on one of Hampshire's busiest roads today.
Long tailbacks built up as the patriotic pedaller made his way along the eastbound carriageway of the A31 during the morning rush-hour.
Cars had trouble squeezing past the middle-aged cyclist on the Burley to Cadnam stretch of the busy dual carriageway.
One motorist said: “He was wearing a white suit with a red cross on the back and also had four or five flags on tall poles.
“It's the only reason I can think of for the one-mile tailback that affected both lanes.
“He looked like the character who turns up a rugby matches. People were tentatively trying to squeeze past him but motorists tooted their horns in support.
“My main reaction was one of curiosity - it certainly put a smile on my face.
“But it was all a bit strange because St George's Day isn't until next Thursday.”
