AN overturned lorry is causing lengthy delays on a busy Hampshire road.

The bin lorry was blocking one lane of Woodside Avenue in Eastleigh and has been on its side since around 2.10pm.

A police spokesman said the driver of the lorry suffered minor injuries but no one else was hurt.

The bin lorry was the only vehicle involved in the incident although two cars were involved in a minor shunt shortly after it overturned, but there were no serious injuries.

Workers are sweeping the road of debris and police have now removed the bollards so the roundabout is back to full use.

An ambulance spokesperson said: “We were called at 2.09pm to reports of an overturned lorry.

"We sent an ambulance crew and a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART). One patient was assessed and treated at the scene for minor injuries but no one was taken to hospital.”

The road is now fully open and traffic is flowing, but a small section of roundabout has been sectioned off by the Highways Agency for clear up work.

The lorry has been removed by a recovery vehicle.
