MOTORISTS were advised to avoid a Hampshire motorway after a crash blocked two lanes of traffic.

The collision happened near Hedge End and on the westbound carriageway of the M27.

Traffic was at a virtual standstill with reported delays of up to half an hour. Commuters were being asked to avoid the area and use different routes.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said that officers were currently at the scene dealing with the collision, which happened at about 7.30am.

The road was finally cleared by 9am, but residual delays remained for some time.
