Last year 11,000 people including beginners, fancy dresswearers and cycling fanatics rode the 7.8km route through the city centre.

This year even more people are expected to take part.

Cyclists will gear up for the event at the starting posts near Southampton Guildhall before pedalling their way through Watts Park, London Road, The Avenue and Southampton Common before doing a circuit of East Park and Palmerston Park on their way back to the finish line near Watts Park.

The roads will be closed for the duration of the event, transforming the city into a car-free zone for the day.

Hundreds of people will flock to the city to watch the event and cheer on participants.

Daily Echo:

Visitors to Southampton are advised to plan ahead with road closures and bus diversions in
place for Sky Ride.

The Avenue will be closed from 5am to 7pm from the bottom of Southampton Common and into town along with roads in the city centre.

Commercial Road, Above Bar Street, West Marlands Road, New Road, Pound Tree Road, Bargate Street and Hanover Buildings will all be closed during the same hours.

Passengers on First, Blustar and Uni-link buses can expect alterations to routes and timetables.
