A motorway junction was partially closed following a crash involving a motorcyclist.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance landed in a field next to the M27 at Hedge End, following the incident which happened shortly after 9am.

Motorists jumped out of their cars to help the male motorcyclist who was left lying on the road on the junction 7 slip road, after coming off a Triumph motorcycle.

He was taken to Southampton General Hospital by ambulance suffering from serious injuries, though they are not believed to be live threatening.

Others tried to move the rest of the traffic into one lane of the Hedge End junction so that they did not hit the injured biker.

South Central Ambulance Service were soon on scene of the incident, which happened at 9.13am, with a rapid response vehicle, ambulance officer and two ambulance crews.
