A HAMPSHIRE road has re-opened following an incident in which a bus was damaged by a tree.

A Bluestar vehicle was travelling along Rushington Avenue in Totton when part of a tree broke off and landed on top of the vehicle.

The bus stopped a few feet down the road with the huge branch still on the roof.

The impact damaged the front corner of the vehicle’s roof, causing bits of metal and large pieces of foliage to land in the road.

Rushington Avenue resident Paula Maddams said: “I heard a horrible bang and thought the bus must have hit one of two skips near the tree.”

The road was closed for about three hours while arrangements were made for the branch to be removed.
