A MAN has been taken to hospital after he was hit by a car while travelling on his mobility scooter.

The accident has caused traffic chaos along the A335 Thomas Lewis Way and a man in his 60s was hit.

The accident happened near Horseshoe Bridge and four police cars are currently on the scene and have cordoned off the area.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service also confirmed they had sent an ambulance officer and ambulance to the incident but the man’s injuries were not known at this time.

He said: “We were called at 10.19am to reports of a car which struck a mobility scooter. A man in his 50s or 60s was treated and is now being taken to Southampton General Hospital.”

A driver who saw the scene said: “There are lots of police officers around cordoning off that area but it’s complete chaos and we had to turn around because the traffic isn’t moving. You can see a mobility scooter in the middle of the road but nothing else.”
