EMERGENCY services this afternoon dealt with a four-vehicle crash involving three lorries that partially blocked a major road into Southampton.

One of the lorries, a white DAF, has jack-knifed on the M271 going southbound between junction 1 of the M27 and the Redbridge roundabout and the cabin separated from the trailer.

Other vehicles then shunted into the back of the crash, which blocked the hard shoulder and lane one almost two hours.

A 24-year-old man sustained minor injuries - cuts to his hands and legs - but it is not known at this stage if he is driver of one of the vehicles.

Police were on scene and an ambulance called for the injured man to take him to hospital.

Highways England warned drivers to expect delays, but the vehicles were recovered and the road cleared shortly before 4.30pm.
