A motorcyclist has died in a road crash this morning.

Police were called to Gosport Road in Fareham shortly after 8am to reports of a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a lorry.

The motorcycle, which was travelling northbound, collided with a central reservation island and the male motorcyclist ended up lying in the road, where he was struck by a lorry.

Despite receiving treatment at the scene from paramedics, the 25-year-old man from Gosport died having suffered serious injuries.

The road was closed for several hours as officers investigate the exact circumstances of the incident, but reopened at 12.30pm.

Drivers had been urged to avoid the area if possible.

A spokeswoman from South Central Ambulance Service said that they were call after 8am this morning to reports of a road traffic collision between a motorbike and a lorry. 

She said: “We sent two ambulances, two officers and a crew from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance in a response vehicle. They assessed a gentleman on arrival and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
