A WOMAN needed to be cut from a car by firefighters after a crash on a Southampton road.

The driver was hurt after being caught in a smash on Wide Lane, Swaythling, shortly before 5.50pm last night.

The Nissan Micra she was in travelling in was in collision with a Peugeot 207 close to the Fleming Arms pub.

Crews from St Mary’s fire station used cutting gear to free her before she was taken to Southampton General Hospital by ambulance suffering from what are believed to be neck and back injuries.

The occupants of the other car are believed to be uninjured.

The road was closed for nearly an hour while emergency services worked and reopened shortly afterwards.
