A MOTORCYCLIST has died after a collision with a lorry.

Emergency services were called to Leckford, near Stockbridge, after a crash between two motorcycles and a large goods vehicle.

One of the riders, a 63-year-old man from Southampton, died from his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene after 5.15pm last night by paramedics.

The other motorcyclist was taken to hospital with minor, non life-threatening injuries.

Police closed off a section of the A3057 Leckford Lane just outside Leckford and Longstock Golf Course after reports of the fatal collision.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was also called to the scene.

Hampshire Constabulary has now confirmed that a 57-year-old man from Tidworth, Wiltshire has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was being questioned as part of Operation Canoe and has been bailed until June 8 while the investigation continues.

The collision happened outside the entrance to the clubhouse of the golf course at around 5.15pm.

A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service said: “We got the call to Leckford Lane at 5.16pm involving a lorry and two motorcyclists.

"We had on scene a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance crew, an ambulance officer, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and a hazardous area response team.

"One patient was taken to Salisbury District Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The incident is being handled by police.”

Police are now appealing for information and ask any witnesses to call 101.
