ONE of Southampton's busiest flyovers will be closed for four nights while "essential" roadworks are carried out.

Work on Redbridge Flyover will begin tonight (April 3) and run until Thursday, April 6, and Southampton City Council says the repairs are likely to be noisy.

Diversions will be in place when the roads are closed from 8pm until 6am.

Councillor Jacqui Rayment, Southampton City Council cabinet member for environment and transport said: “These works are essential in order to maintain the road surfaces on these flyovers and adjoining slip roads.

"The two flyovers and adjoining slip roads are an essential part of the road network for accessing the west of the city, providing access to Southampton’s Container Port as well as to large residential and commercial parts of Redbridge and Millbrook.

"Any closures are going to cause some disruption but by working at night and avoiding the weekends we hope to keep any noise and disruption to a minimum.”

Similar works on Millbrook flyover have now been completed.
