A MOTORCYCLIST flagged down the police after he skidded off the road and then refused to give a breath test when officers suspected he had been drinking.

Southampton Magistrates’ Court was told how Lindsay Hastings had come off his Yamaha bike on Rownhams Road in Romsey after braking to avoid a fox in the road.

Shortly afterwards he flagged down a police car and officers asked him to perform a breath test after smelling alcohol on his breath following the incident on May 1, prosecutor Emma Currie said.

When he refused he was charged with failing to give a sample of breath to which he pleaded guilty. Hastings, 38, of Mortimer Close, Totton, said he was in shock having come off his bike and had only drunk two pints of shandy that night.

He was given a £110 fine, ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge and was disqualified from driving for a year.
