BY ANY criteria it is marvellous news for the region.

As this paper reports today, Hampshire is set to benefit from a multimillionpound boost from Government coffers.

Major plans unveiled today include a new ferry terminal in Southampton, major improvements to Hampshire’s road network and state-of-the-art facilities at two of the county’s top colleges.

Funding for proposed new roads will help pave the way for 17,000 homes to be built in the region.

The Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is being given £124 million of Government money to spend over the next five years.

The money will mean the face of Southampton’s waterfront will change forever.

The long awaited Mayflower Park development looks a lot more certain with the moving of the Red Funnel terminal paving the way for a state-of-theart development that hopefully will reconnect the city with the sea.

As shots in the arm go, this is a major boost to the region and the economy. We should be full of praise to all those who have landed the city region such a deal.
