COMMON sense has prevailed.

The vexed question posed by this newspaper on Saturday – asking when is a pothole deep enough for something to be done about it – has been answered.

As we report today, the city council has performed a rapid U-turn and decided that the surface of Coxford Road is bad enough to warrant some repairs.

This, you may remember, was the road where the potholes were 10mm too shallow to be fixed.

At last there promises to be some relief, not only for drivers but also for the poor unfortunate residents who have had to put up with the noise of buses and lorries driving up and down the pockmarked asphalt.

It is not known where the money will come from to carry out this work.

Perhaps some other city road will no longer get its planned care and attention.

Anyway, those concerns should be put aside for now.

Well done to the city council. It’s just a shame the right decision couldn’t have been made first time around.
