AMID the horror of war can come examples of enormous courage and inspiration.

When Hampshire soldier Dave Henson lost both of his legs to a roadside bomb on his first tour of duty in Afghanistan his could have been a story of pity. But that isn’t Dave, nor so many of his comrades, who simply refuse to let injury and disability hold them back.

Now, as this paper reports today, Dave has been chosen to not just take part in the first Invictus Games to be staged in London in a few days’ time, but to captain the team for Prince Harry.

The games are a stunning tribute not only to the men and women taking part but also the prince, who has worked tirelessly in this area.

Talk of war in that troubled part of the world involving British forces has not gone away. And we shudder that more of our finest citizens could find themselves in the firing line.

If that should happen we know that the courage of men like Dave Henson and his sporting team of heroes will not waver in doing their duty.

We should not waver in giving them our support for these games.
