It is a bold ambitious plan that is hoped will transform the lives of thousands of people in Southampton.

Better Care Southampton, as this paper reports today, will bring together a host of medical services to create six one-stop style clusters in the city.

The scheme will especially target the 86,000 people suffering from serious forms of illness in Southampton.

Backed by the Government, it goes further than in other regions where similar schemes are being considered, say those behind the project.

Certainly it appears an imaginative and bold response to many of the health challenges faced by residents and those who must provide care.

Coming at the same time that Southampton City Council leader Councillor Simon Letts warns that health care in Southampton is in crisis, Better Care Southampton is a much needed and timely initiative that has the potential to change lives for the better.
