There’s no topic more apt for the phrase “what goes around comes around” than the subject of wind turbines.

And there is no news story more fitting for that very same phrase than the manufacturing of wind turbines on the south coast.

In 2009 Vesta’s decision to shut wind turbine production on the Isle of Wight sparked controversy and protests.

Then, the move meant the loss of 425 much-needed jobs on the Island and an 18-day sit-in by workers who were about to lose their jobs.

Yesterday though, the firm revealed that wind turbine production was to resume on the Island, creating 200 jobs.

While it is still not even half the number of jobs initially lost, the announcement, due to a project in Liverpool Bay, can only be good news for the business in the south.

Not only that though, the jobs mean an expansion to a wind farm, which is also good news for the environment.

And now with the potential of more offshore wind farms around our coast, the green energy industry in the region may be about to get the wind in its sails and play a vital role in the expansion of the local economy.
