THEY have become the voice of the nations – or many voices, in fact.

The birth and success of community choirs has taken the country by storm.

From reality shows to support groups, there is no longer the need for those wishing to belt out a tune to have any experience, nor even – whisper it – sometimes a strong voice.

It is the coming together and expressing a voice that is no doubt making such projects so popular.

Now Southampton is to have its own community choir project, starting with auditions being held this week and then a concert with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in Southampton in July.

The Daily Echo is backing the project and we hope you will turn out in your hundreds to try a free sampler experience this weekend when members of other successful mass choirs will be on hand to offer support and encouragement.

This paper is convinced Southampton can make some noise – and what a sweet sound it will be.
