Simon Katich has helped knock Auckland Aces out of the Champions League T20.
Katich is yet to decide whether to return to Hampshire next year. But he completed his CLT20 campaign by helping the Perth Scorchers win their final game, beating the side that qualified at Hampshire’s expense by 16 runs.
Auckland needed to win to keep their slim hopes alive and Kyle Mills (4-0-14-0) and Michael Bates (4-34) restricted Perth to 140-7, with Katich hitting a 23-ball 21 to finish the tournament as his side’s leading run-scorer.
Marcus North (38) and Paul Collingwood (37) top scored for Perth before they were run out.
But the Aussies defended their modest total, slow left-armer Michael Beer’s 3-13 putting the brakes on from the start as Auckland were restricted to 124-8.
