Bale's debt to Saints
9:03am Thursday 25th October 2012 in Sport
By Simon Walter, Senior Sports Reporter
Gareth Bale
GARETH Bale is returning to Saints for the first time – with a vote of thanks from his grateful parents.
It is more than five years since the Saints academy product left for Spurs after one outstanding season in the club’s first team.
Bale was on Saints’ books for more than a decade before turning down the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal to sign for Spurs, for a fee of about £7m, in the summer of 2007.
He returns on Sunday as one of the most feared players in Europe.
Bale’s proud parents, Frank and Debbie, will be in the away end, grateful for the role Saints played in their son’s development.
“Southampton prepared Gareth brilliantly, they really cared for his every need and we’re very grateful for that,” says Debbie.
“We were over the moon when they returned to the Premier League, they’re where they deserve to be.
“We always look for their results and although it was a bad one at West Ham last week it was great to see Adam [Lallana] score his first Premier League goal.”
The Bales will be travelling by train on Sunday morning.
“We all wanted to go to this game so much,” Debbie explains. “Gareth’s bought tickets for 13 of us – including his sister Vicky, aunties and uncles and a few of his friends."
Each one of us saw him play at St Mary’s for Southampton so we’re excited. I’m sure it will be a bit emotional.
“We thought about driving but then remembered how long it took to get back on the motorway after leaving a game!”

Somehow we have to keep him quiet.
Pitty it was Spurs that have benefitted. Will be nice to see him again.
Regardless of the tag that he dives,he could and will play for the likes of Real Madrid in the future.
What a great advert for SFC academy.

Bale is a wonderful advert for Saints because all the outstanding development with this particular player has continued.
Unfortunately the same can't be said for Walcott, who IMO is no better now than when he left. For the sake of the England national side, I hope the same doesn't happen to Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Young clyne will have his work cut out with bale but like most of the spurs team they are much better going forward than defending so 0-0 is unlikely with our record !!

My message to Frank And Debbie : "tell your idiot son to stop cheating and diving and making a total fool of himself".... because, the first time he dives ( and he will, he can not help himself ) he will be booed by THOUSANDS of fans who want to see fair play and no cheating. His latest cheating against Villa is now one of the most famous football cheating examples of all time..... its being talked about along with Rivaldo at the corner flag. So, anyway , don't expect to enjoy the game this weekend because you may be dissappointed.

Anyway, why are we worrying about their attacking threat? Brad Friedel is, like, 83 and will never have played against a better striker of the ball than Rickie Lambert. Rickie will take his face off.
I've a feeling it'll be a magnificent game of football.

Bale, as well as being a cheat is also vastly overrated. if you watch his games over 90 minutes, count the number of times he runs into a dead end when he could have passed. His % successes come from cutting in and causing trouble in front of the box. He has this legend status as a runner and a destoyer down the wings but thats a myth, look at his games and its clear the way to keep him out is 4-2-3-1 which Saints just about have the personnel to play.....no need to mark him out of the game , just keep him away from the front of the box.

I was hoping he might pick up a slight injury tonight, in Slovenia, so he would be missing from Sunday's game, but he's at home with his new born daughter.
Congratulations on the birth of his daughter, but wouldn't it be better if he took his full quota of paternity leave??
If he didn't have enough incentive to play well, he now has another reason for scoring against us.

With no help PL coaching help announced for NA and no apparent change in tactics, I expect Saints to be overrun by the likes of Lennan, Defoe, Bale, Adebayor etc. and lose by 2 clear goals.
I am a Saints supporter and I hope to be proved wrong but if Saints don't change their tactics, formation, player fitness, coaching system or whatever then neither will their results!

Going to be a good battle between clyne and bale, clyne is a cracking player too. We are going to have to get into spurs faces and not let them settle, they are another team who will have plenty of possession. We have a chance however I fear we may be fragile and lacking in confidence.
Just a thought, wouldn't it be good right now for the players if a certain le god was around to offer advice and experience, some one whose been in relegation before?

Here is a fact. yesterday I had a meeting. After the meeting I was 100% sure that NC is not interfering with team affairs, before the meeting I suspected he was. The business meeting was nothing to do with football but the person I was meeting with is involved in the profession. Now I know he is telling the truth and I know his explanation is watertight. So fo me that particular debate is over. Whether that "attracts attentionfor me" is of no interest to me. If I wanted to show off I certainly would not post here about my business contacts, I would maybe post elsewhere about business deals.....
MGRA, no offence intended at all, but I just wondered if you could point me in the direction of a piece of information you have passed on from one of your many sources that turned out to be correct?
I'm aware that you're guarded about your sources, and your own deep and meaningful links to the club, so if you want people to take your posts seriously, I think it's probably wise to show that you have a track record for correctly predicting what happens at Saints.
Without either (a) telling us where you get your info, (b) telling us what your specific links to the Club are, or (c) showing that your 'insights' do indeed come to fruition, everyone would be right to ignore your posts as the fantasies of a lonely, desperate man seeking attention...
But as I say, answer one of (a) to (c) above and people might start taking you more seriously.

BTW, exaggerated use of punctuation and the abbreviation LOL displays a deeper rooted problem that you really should address....I'd wager you harbour some displeasure regarding this particular sites' inability to display emoticons...

Do you back Appy, or do you slaughter him like a good number on the News site ?
Adkins gets bad posts on here, but as you pointed out when the Echo tried to follow up their hatchet job it backfired on them.
78% in favour !
You are right, it will be a long hard season, and exactly what several of us prophesied at the beginning of the season.
Supporters carry on supporting, like at Pompey!
You do carry on supporting your club don't you?
I support The Saints.
I do not sl4g off PFC, I read the News as a football fan. I also read several other newspapers who comment on activities at both of our clubs.
Your club is held up as an example of how not to run a club. Not anything you as a fan can change, Saints fans had nothing to do with Rupert and his fatal actions.
Your fans hold up history as proof of your supremacy, but sidestep the facts that three times now you have nearly gone bankrupt. Most of your fans think it could happen again with PST !
By all means continue to post on here, but most of your comments are ignored because they are just drivel aimed at the lowest common denominator, just like a lot of the knuckle draggers who come on here representing your club and city.

"fans" would be on his back quicker that you could say "fairy" and no real saints fan would just applaud him if he dived and we lost the game because of it. I don't agree that he is over-rated. I think he is explosive and extrememly talented. But, he is a diver. And diving is cheating. He never used to cheat when he was at saints so someone taught him that load of cr@p at spurs.
Mush On The Beach wrote:Totally agree. Anyone could see his talent and potential from his very earliest days with Saints. And what poor taste that some supposedly football fans would seek to sour his families appreciation of the Club that gave him his break. What sort of "fans" do we have?
MGRA wrote: Bale, as well as being a cheat is also vastly overrated. if you watch his games over 90 minutes, count the number of times he runs into a dead end when he could have passed. His % successes come from cutting in and causing trouble in front of the box. He has this legend status as a runner and a destoyer down the wings but thats a myth, look at his games and its clear the way to keep him out is 4-2-3-1 which Saints just about have the personnel to play.....no need to mark him out of the game , just keep him away from the front of the box.He destroyed Maicon in Milan and he single handedly turned the jocks over last week. Overrated, I don’t think so and doubt if many Spurs fans would agree with you either. I’d have him back in a shot

I'm tired of wading through the inane dross to find a comment worthy of reading and I am sure I speak for many who hold similar opinions.

We as Saints supporters are mostly surrounded by local fans and people who have the best interests of the club in mind.
Occasionally on here the odd weirdo makes some ridiculous comment to wind everyone up and get a kneejerk reaction. It works!
Also there are the comments of neanderthals who claim to be PFC fans but actually are just WUM's .
Nobody will bite at my question..... what is the dictionary definition of a fan and a supporter. They are not the same.
I am a Saints supporter, I SUPPORT The Saints.
Not blindly.
What happens to my club affects me, and I want the best and believe that supporting the individuals helps the whole.

Bale has learned how to get out of the way before he gets clattered by thugs like Charlie ''chopper'' Adam who would rather see Bale in hospital than see him get past.
Ronaldo and Messi have now both mastered this art Bale is still work in progress.
Bale jumps to ride the challenge before he gets hit but if the challenger decides to pull back yes Bale will then fall over and yes perhaps it will look like a dive but no he won't end up missing half the season injured like last year.
You want to see a diving cheat look at Suarez, Ashley Young or Wellbeck then you will have something to say that might be taken seriously.

this is the manager and team that possibly achieved prem football too soon and would of probably benefited from a 2nd year in the NPC. despite all of this i think that true fans are willing to give him a break and let him get on with doing what he thinks is best for the team. This does not mean that i personally give NA an infinite amount of time.

Let's give I'm a decent reception. He's fantastic advertising for saints (unlike bridge, sadly).
Naturally I hope he plays a shocker, like everyone else. But somehow I don't think we'll be so lucky.
And I he gets in any one-on-ones with fox, we'll be f*****.
Bring on the shaman, and let Clyne play rb.

It's a great pity that 50% or more of this column has been taken over by the cerebral challenged who would be much better off making their comments on poopey, skates, skunts etc. to a column run by the Dandy or Beano and leave this column to the mature, educated contributors interested in the Saints.
I'm tired of wading through the inane dross to find a comment worthy of reading and I am sure I speak for many who hold similar opinions.
With no help PL coaching help announced for NA and no apparent change in tactics, I expect Saints to be overrun by the likes of Lennan, Defoe, Bale, Adebayor etc. and lose by 2 clear goals.
I am a Saints supporter and I hope to be proved wrong but if Saints don't change their tactics, formation, player fitness, coaching system or whatever then neither will their results!

going back to the game, I think that some of the younger spuds are going to get the shock of their lives when they here the real and proper version of OUR song, just imagine them starting to join in and then........
I don’t want to sing glory glory, or red is the colour or blow any bubbles and I would die before singing pay up poopey!
I am upbeat about the game and feel that we can get a result! I mean come on they struggled against NK Maribor (who ever they are) and it is a tough week for them, with little time to practice.

WHEN the DE next improve this site and add the much requested 'LIKE' and 'DISLIKE' buttons, I think they should also evolve the site so that:
1. once a post gets more than, say, a generous 50 dislikes, no one can quote it.
2. (not sure how the DE system could do this, but ....) if, believing a post hasn't been received, one of us resubmits a post, the DE recognises it as a repeat post and stops it from re-appearing.
3. most importantly, once a post has been quoted, say, 10 times, it can't be quoted again. Scrolling down is becoming really tedious.
Mind you, if that was already the case, I wouldn't be able to quote Slugger above on his Zebedee misquote, '"bed time," said zebedee.' Surely, he said, "time for bed".
That's the problem on here, 'NC said this', 'Matt Le Tiss said that'! Like Slugger on Zebedee, there are so many misquotes. :)

WHEN the DE next improve this site and add the much requested 'LIKE' and 'DISLIKE' buttons, I think they should also evolve the site so that: 1. once a post gets more than, say, a generous 50 dislikes, no one can quote it. :)
I've noticed, though, that the echo seems to have the same essential website as a whole host of other city newspapers in the UK. A bit like tree seems to be one company running all football official websites.
Which makes me think that it's probably well byond the echo's control to add enhancements to the comments part of the website. Presumably that would be the domain of the website company that they seem to be using, along with others.
