I knew Saints would come on strong - Villas-Boas

Daily Echo: Andre Villas-Boas Andre Villas-Boas

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas expected a Saints second half backlash at St Mary’s yesterday because Nigel Adkins’ team “had nothing to lose.”

The Spurs manager saw his side totally dominate the first half and take a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to goals from Gareth Bale and Clint Dempsey.

But he felt they were still one short of killing the game and expected the onslaught that his team eventually rode out.

He said: “Obviously I am happy for what we did in the game and certainly it was a good first half.

“We kept the ball well, managed to create lots of opportunities and always looked in control of the game.

"I am extremely happy for that and what we spoke about at half-time was that only a 3-0 scoreline would put a game like this to bed because Southampton had nothing to lose.

"They came out very, very strongly in the second half. As soon as they scored, the game changes and makes it more difficult.

"It was very, very similar to the game we played at Old Trafford when we had an extremely good first half in terms of keeping the ball and playing.

"But in the second half we showed that desire to defend and hold onto the result."

It was a quick turnaround for Tottenham, who were involved in a tough 1-1 Europa League draw at NK Maribor on Thursday.

"We came back late from our trip against Maribor," Villas-Boas said.

"We arrived at 2am in the morning, had two days to recover to play a game like this.

"It required big physical capability and the players really put in the effort.

"It shows a good example of the possibility that you have to play in the Europa League, be available for the Premier League and still be able to win games."

Bale was one of several players not travel to Slovenia, although it was the birth of his first child rather than injury that saw him remain at home.

The Wales international returned to the fold yesterday against the side he began his career with and impressed in the first half at his old stomping ground.

"I am extremely happy for him," Villas-Boas said. "He is a massive player for the team.

"He is a player that can make a different with small opportunities.

"He certainly did that today and scored. It was good for him to be back on the scoresheet.

"He is certainly someone we rate very, very highly and can go all the way to becoming one of the best."

hate to say it but our future looks doomed after next weeks games we will be bottom of the table and i cant see us getting off there we cant afford to wait until january as that will be too late you have to pick up wins from nearly every home game if your not picking up points away which we arent and we are not winning these games so how do we expect to survive we still need 36 points to survive thats an awful lot of points which I cant see us getting barring a miracle

It's alright having an improved performance in the 2nd half but did Friedel have a shot to save all game? I don't think so as far as I see it if we had of got an equaliser Spurs would have just gone down the other end and got another. Still behind Adkins as there are no other managers who I would want in charge available at present

Defense is shocking every game,
gifting goals away which are all school boy errors,

this would have been all sorted out by an experienced prem manager,

we should be playing like we did in second half in every game.

new manager needed now,cos jan will be to late and we will be cut adrift if we continue under nice nigel,

surely cortese knows this?

Two shots on target all game at home isn't good enough, regardless of who you are playing. Seems to me that some saints fans are more interested in making up the numbers in the premier league and not actually competing with the rest of the teams. Yes it was an improved performance in the second half but it was another loss. At this rate by January it will all be too late, some people need to start waking up and notice what is actually happening this season. For me Adkins can't take too much of the blame but how much influence did he have over summer transfer targets? Jay Rod might have grabbed a goal yesterday but was poor overall, Mayuaka looked decent when coming on but still needs a full 90mins, Yosida is extremely average and hasn't has the impact we all thought he would have. All that money could of spent elsewhere on some solid defenders and central midfielders who would of helped us compete a lot more. Wigan, Fulham and Spurs you would hope for at least 4 points in those games and as for the West Ham game last week say no more....

Being positive it was good to see the improvement in the second half and that NA got the first substitution and change of tactics right as we had nothing to loose. there was no need for the next two subs.
However the first half formation was wrong Punch and Adam were too far forward giving little protection to the fullbacks. NA must learn how to organise and protect an already weak back five. We need to play out some boring 0-0 draws to gain confidence defensively. We are not good enough to out score the opposition so NA must change from playing the way he wants needs to be more defensive and build from the back.
I agree with a lot of other posts on here recently, a top coach needs to be brought in to help him immediately.
We cannot afford to fall away from the bottom pack so at least 4 points out of the next 6 is a must just to stay with them. Quarter of season gone and only 4 points, about 38 are needed to stay up so lot of work to do. But the second half committment was good and proved again that we can compete at this level if we get the tactics right, plus defenders in January, then we can be more offensive.
Come on you Red and White Pin Strips !!!

Difficult times but we need to stay positive and patient. Nigel has done a fantastic job getting us here and I believe he will keep us up. Stick with the plan. A couple of wins from our next four games will make the picture a whole lot better. The only way to learn is by doing and Nigel is gaining the experience he needs to become a top manager and I want him here with us. There is a long way to go and our target is staying up, consolidating and building and wholesale change will only disrupt that plan. We've had a great few years and the good times will be back but this time in the premier league. Hold the line people. . Stay positive and support Nigel and the boys. Coyrs.

So we again started with a formation that has consistently failed. Rodriquez and Lambert, both centre forwards playing together. A midfield with one tackler in Davies and two attacking midfielders, who are not affectively defensively, This resulted in Tottenham never moving out of second gear for the whole of the first half. In cruise mode, they scored 2 and could have had more. Atkins started the second half the same, where previously we had not created a chance, shot or corner, why wait until the 60 minute mark or so, before changing. Then we bring on Muyuka, African golden boot winner and wow a big change. Chances, shots, corners goal and goal line clearances. Then guess what as Tottenham are struggling with every Saints attack, Atkins changes again and the game was gone. Before the game I was worried, Tottenham a club with good players and us with a failed formation who leak 3 goal every game. But we could have drawn or even won. Time is running out for Atkins, I would like him to succeed but error after error in this brutal league will not help. Until we have at least another tackling central midfielder to help out Davis, each team will pour through our defence. In the short term Chappers may be able to go a job, I would at least try. Punch has done well, but rather than keep bringing one Guly who fails to impress every time he comes on, try with Chappers for Spider. Even the Riddler may be an alternative, he is not so affective going forward, but he is quick and covers well. Many teams have big central midfielders Tottenham had two yesterday, Everton have two. It is a tough league and it is hard losing, but it’s harder when the manager is not leaning and adjusting quickly enough. Then when everything is finally going in the right direction, why change?

I've been a stern critic of NA this season based on his team selection / substitutions, but I think he got yesterday somewhere near spot on.
Mayuka needs more pitch time btw.
The long and short of it is that for long periods of matches, Saints are being outclassed. Our defenders can't cope with the movement from World Class opponents because they aren't training against world class team mates. NA needs a Defensive Coach who's played at the highest level if Saints are to stop haemorrhaging goals.
Booing Guly is just plain wrong and embarrassing - it needs to stop!

How much time does Adkins need ? He is losing a lot of support now, his premier record speaks for itself.

I can live with the fact that our superb young manager is learning to adjust to the highest level in world football. NA has made some strange decisions this season.

When the fixture list came out in June he should have realised we would be under pressure in those first few games. So what does he do, he signs attacking players. He should have signed some experienced defenders/midfielder
s and then signed the attacking players in January. I still don't see the point in signing J Rod and letting Billy Sharp go out on loan. We would have been better off signing a decent defender with that £7 million (Dann or Dawson) and sending Seabourne out on loan.

I struggle to understand why he has left out Lambert against Man City and West Ham. Some of you say it was tactical genius against City but I think he got lucky.

I know getting beat every week isn't good for confidence but neither is being dropped. I personally think Adkins is running out of ideas.

I agree that stability is important but so is survival. In any industry if a business isn't performing or meeting it's targets then things have to change.

More from the Doom and Gloom club. Fair enough, you're all entitled to your opinion. Well here's mine. Sacking NA is not going to miraculously turn things around. Transfer window doesn't open again until January and until then, we have the SAME players. Bringing in 'Premiership experienced' manager is a load of bs. The ball is still round, the rules are the same. Saints is a work in progress and its gonna take time. All you lot who want instant success are typical of a general malaise not just in this country but everywhere. Shoot me down for that if you want, but that's my opinion. I've posted here before about wanting a team to be proud of built in the right way, playing the beautiful game and getting results, not a plastic facsimile of Manure. correct the transfer window does not open until January. Question is will we be out of touch by then, remember a fool and his money is can easily be spent unwisely. Waiting until January to sign more attackers umm. West ham got a premiership goalkeeper on the free and a few million on a defender and midfielder. It is not pretty stuff but they are in the top half and will look to plan for the next season. They are also £90M in debt but hey cant have everything. Will the owners see spending more with Atkins a good thing, he has not spent the £30M well so far.

You're right about J Rod - he needs to work hard in training and get his shots on target and test the keeper.

That said he scored a good goal yesterday and his name should be on the Team Sheet for Cup Games.

the spuds at the end of the day think they are big time with some of them giving it large - the reality is that they are all mouth.

We will enjoy giving it to them at their place and We aim to come back with all three points.

SAINTS ARE IN A MASSIVE FIGHT IN THE PREMIERSHIP.

As Seed has said in his post - it is what it is.

Now we need hard core dedicated Supporters to give it everything on the Terraces - even when the Team is losing - to give the Team a fighting chance in this league.

Sitting dumbstruck in silence is not an option.

I still think we can turn this around.

With a fit Ramirez and Tadanari Lee we will have more than sufficient attacking and creative options.

It's just the defence. It seems pretty obvious that we missed a trick by not strengthening there. I'm also not convinced by our goalkeeping arrangements. In all honesty Bart Bialkowski wasn't as bad as people think - he just didn't get enough match time. Maybe it would be better now to reinstate Kelvin Davis - and it's probably fair to say that Gazza didn't get a long enough run when he came in. Boruc hasn't inspired me with anything I've seen.

We have what we have now though and we should be supporting the team fully. As for booing Guly I think that's a disgrace. Personally I think his work rate is decent and he deserves better support.
I still think we can turn this around. With a fit Ramirez and Tadanari Lee we will have more than sufficient attacking and creative options. It's just the defence. It seems pretty obvious that we missed a trick by not strengthening there. I'm also not convinced by our goalkeeping arrangements. Would please enlighten us how much was spent in the last transfer window? and despite that figure we still have a team that resembles a league 1 team.

You can understand the frustration from the Supporters when wet spam are in a position with points on the board - where we would all like to be.

One thing for sure is that we are not league one - nor is the footballing side - that honour belongs to the blue few as they slip down the football league.

One of our big summer signings is injured and he does make a difference to the play.

There is no reason why we cannot get points from the next few games especially our next home game.

It will be a long tough fight this Season to become established in the Premiership.

LET'S GET BEHIND THE LADS AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Look at the games we've played and the positions those teams are in in the table:

Lost to teams in positions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 9.

Drew with team in position 7.

Beat team in position 17.

The only disappointing results for me was losing to the team in position 15 (the Wigan game).

We now have more games to play against teams around us then the teams around us have.

Plus: we have Ramirez, Lee, Richardson all due back from injury.

Come on everyone, have a little faith and enjoy being back in the best league in the world.

We will turn this around.

I seem to have typed this before but here goes again. We did try to sign defenders in the summer and, in fact, did sign Clyne and Yoshida who are doing pretty well and will get even better. We also tried to sign Buttner but for some reason he decided to join Man Utd instead. There were rpobably others. Us wanting people and them agreeing to sign are two different things.

Our record signing Ramirez has been injured as have the very important Jack Cork and Tadanari Lee.

We have played 5 out of the top 6 sides in our opening 9 fixtures.

I saw enough in the second half to believe that we will be OK with the return of key players, perhaps the signing of another centre back in January and some slightly easier opposition in the coming matches.

People calling for the replacement of NA have not explained who they would like instead (not Redknapp) or how such disruption would help the team.

Have patience and remember where we were two years ago.

We have a great stadium that we pretty much fill every week.

We have a great bloke as manager who has got us to the prem after back to back promotions.

We have a great squad

We have a captain who is a local lad who has stayed with us from relegation from the prem.

Financially we are safe thanks to Mr Liebherr r.i.p

What is all this negativity about?

I'm happy, don't tell me you thought the prem was gunna be a walk in the park?

Said it before, we need an experienced defensive coach to mould the back five into an effective unit. They are all useful players individually but just struggling to work as a team. Cannot believe the negativity in the posts
many are making. Yes the team is under a lot of pressure and the confidence was lacking in the first half of yesterday's game.
But what we did see in the 2nd half was the ability the team has . This has been shown in a number of the games this year particularly against Man United who were very lucky to leave St Mary's with 3 points/
I was proud to see the lads performing the way they did in the 2nd half and in the end they were unlucky to get a result against one of the best teams in the premiership.
The players need the encouragement to have total belief in themselves to win games which I believe they are very capable of accomplishing.
Lets get behind the team they are quite capable of moving up to the mid table and I predict they may surprise WBA next week. A wonderful 2nd half performance yesterday if they play like that for 90 minutes and believe in themselves we have lots to look forward to. Thank you NA for doing all you have done for the club.....Keep the faith! Things will improve as long as the players believe in themselves and the fans get behind them

Only this game has the ability to divide opinion. eg I don#t personaly Puncheon who promises much but just runs and runs into dead ends. Some people like Fox, but MOTD2 just about ripped him to shreds last nite showing gaps behind him so big that half the Southampton cruise fleet could have sailed into.

Is it such a shock though that the defence and GK positions have proved so inadequate with exception of Clyne??

Any we will improve and move up ...

There is a very sad side to this whole debacle...and that is we don't have players who can take instructions.
When players do no t do a job - those left to tidy up get blamed.
It was horrifying watching both wing backs and full backs ganging up on Fox & Clyne throughout the first half. Even a schoolboy could have seen players not tracking back or offering any defence.
Can't blame JayRod or Rickie - they both put in great shifts closing down - but our so called midfield went absent leaving plenty of space for a neat to foot pass. In previous games defenders have paniced and hoofed it to our defenders/goalkeeper
.
It seems to me Lallana and Puncheon think they have a licence to wander around and do what they want.
I don't know why our defence gets such a hammering after yesterday - it's a team game - and we have stopped playing like a team. Never mind us fans bickering all day long at each other - I wonder if the new boys have ruffled a few feathers.
Lallana doesn't get the same freedom, Rickie was out-muscled a bit more yesterday too, and our passing game (except for the pressureless passing across the back) is woeful.
We need to move up another gear - Ward-Prowse offered a lot he ran and passed instinctively. Something Ramirez adds to the side - the forward pass (not sideways or backwards). He can carve open defences with a single ball - but yesterday no one would have been on the end of it!
We are all laterday Managers - we all have opinions we like to share too - but let's get it into prospective.
How many times have we been here without any hope apparently? We don't have a Le Tissier any more. We don't have a Branfoot, or a Wigley, or the hapless Dutch duo in charge...we have Nigel. Positive almost too positive for some of you...but we will turn the corner. Something will happen and it will all click.
The reason we looked more dangerous in the second half was down to the full backs not being so gung-ho and the fact Mayuka put the fear of God into their defence.
It's not rocket science - Adkins knows his best team, formation and tactics, he just can employ them at the moment.
Just remember success this season is 17th place - reaching 40-points by Christmas was never going to happen. A shame about losing our home form - but you could hear a pin drop in the stadium at 2-0 down. I was as guilty as the next fan...but somehow at the back of The Chapel it didn't seem right to stand up and upset those in the 2-rows behind me...singing (oops did I say a dirty word?) non-existent.
Going to go to Leeds tomorrow to watch the team again. I won't stop watching but £36 for a seat in The Chapel...what next £5/pint?
St.Mary's has become too expensive for me...looks like WBA and Leeds will prove better value for money!

For me, our best back 4 is Clyne, Yoshida, Hooiveld and Fox. We haven't played these as a back 4 yet and we have the worst defense in PL history. I'm not saying get rid of Adkins, I'm just asking him to pick our best defense. He had a chance to yesterday and didn't and YET AGAIN Fonte has a calamitous moment and they score. How many times, please drop him and put anyone in there. Anyone would make less mistakes. We are leaking goals and dropping points for christs sake. Do it now Adkins.

For the first time in my life as a Saints supporter, going back 38 yrs watching the Saints, yesterday I felt truly embarrassed by what happened...

There was, for long periods of times an atmosphere which was so negative, with so called fans shouting obscenities at their own players, and booing their team off at half time...

To all the doom and gloom merchants, I say Shame On You!

Three and a half years ago, we were saved by Marcus Liebher (RIP) and Nicola Cortese. Thanks to them we are back in the Premier league, and we, as a club have a clear philosophy which we are following. The club has done, or in the process of doing everything that it said it would do.

Last year pre-season, The Echo had a poll, in which we tried to guess where we would finish... Most posters on this site thought we would finish mid table, or worse. RED ARMY thought we would get promoted, and many people thought he was nuts...

Perhaps we got here a little too soon. Either way, we need to get behind the team, because so far we have had little or no luck. Injuries to players, transfer targets falling through, and an horrendous fixture list have all worked against us.

So are we making progress? Well I would suggest that we are. The defence is getting better, but has hardly been settled due to injuries. For me Boruc yesterday was the most complete performance we have had by a keeper this season.

Looking at the current table, we have played 7 of the top 10, and only 2 of the bottom 10 teams.

I believe things will get better, but we need to get behind our team. Why on earth are we abusing our own players, such as Boruc to the degree he has to close his twitter account after playing one game for us? Doesn't that make you feel proud to be a Saints fan!

In the Kingsland I am surrounded by idiots that are more animated and vocal at Fox and Gully, and Adkins when he brings them on, than at any other time, and I for one felt ashamed that these so called Saints fans seem more intent on knocking the team, than getting behind the 11 Saints players on the pitch, no matter who they are.

I couldn't agree more St.Yorkie. I was sat next to an idiot that was constantly screaming abuse at Fox yesterday for not picking up the spurs right-back Walker, despite the fact he was marking Lennon...

When I pointed out the fact that it should be Lallana tracking Walker, and that we should be defending as a team, and it wasn't all Fox's responsibility, he was abusive to me, and said that His grandad could have played better than Fox... Perhaps Nigel ought give him a call.

Lambert

With Richardson, Cork, Ramirez and Lee all injured, that's potentially 40% of our best outfield team injured...

You won the Fa Cup but your certainly paying for it now how long til the PST takes over? Looking forward to watching your game tonight always enjoy the circus. Best attended and best supported with your attendances at the moment you can't really claim to anything especially after the Pack the Park joke. And unlike your lot I would not want to have someone like Redknapp back at our club bringing in mercenaries like Bernard and Ben-Haim who will take up most of the wage bill

Misery enjoys company. I wonder if there's some way all the depressing doom-mongering defeatists could be put in the same stand together?

They would be very happy together in say 'The Crestfallen Block' or the 'Desolate End' - and valium could be served downstairs next to the Samaritans booth. The club shop could make available effigies of the players and officials they hate into which they could stick pins. And if, sadly, the match is going well, they could be cheered up with a video of a past heavy defeat.

The rest of us could then get on with fulfilling the role of supporters ie supporting.

My favourite thing about this time of the year is that you get to go to work in the dark and travel home in the dark. Some people find this depressing, but I just pretend it's because I'm Batman.

No just someone who can get the best out of the players we have and recruit players to correct our weaknesses.

How many of our squad have PL experience before te season started?

We got 4 points off WHA last season and made them look poor on both occasions. Ths season we get trashed 4-1 after spending +£20m. So whats gone wrong? the buck stops with whoever is running the team thats NA (I presume).

Emh. Getting behind the team. Its that simple. Pompey fans are a bit more foregiving than yours (maybe its the demographic and the continuous location of the ground). Mr Westwood is funny but he bever boos the team.

This is what Le Tiss was hinting at in his speach the other day. You could buy the club for £60 mill now,but Cortese wants it for less.

BBC had it as SIX shots on target.

If you're interested, that is.

Unfortunately as much as I enjoy reading a conspiracy theory they normally prompt more questions such as......if we get relegated how do you know that NC might not get the chop....and does he actually have the funds to buy out the club......is he doing a "Rangers" with the loan on future season ticket sales......how will he bankroll future transfers - with the same bottomless loan (oh and he will need to buy in good championship players if that happens because most of the current squad will walk away - the "good ones" that is! I find it quite surprising that various people in various threads have said that they would be quite happy to follow NA back to the Championship as long as we play good football. In the same breath they usually mention the so- called 5 year plan. Well the 5 year plan started with AP and we are currently in year 4. I don't think the 5 year plan envisages relegation to the Championship in year 5, that will require a total re-build and and a desperate immediate return to the Prem. And it will require a rebuild because if anyone thinks that our multi million pound, free-scoring (not my words), most entertaining team in the Prem is going to turn out for you on a miserable autumnal afternoon in the Champ......? Well - get real. I expect most of the new signings have got get out clauses in their contracts. I wonder what the Ramirez minimum bid is - confidential of course and I am sure will never be circulated in the "unlikely" demise of our Prem status. Does anyone not think that Lallana and Lambert won't follow them out the door having had a taste. Oh I am sure the defence and goalkeepers won't be cherri-picked - they will be quite safe with us. That's if RL doesn't go in January - if that reverse psychology interview last week by NA purporting to support RL doesn't invite bids I will be most surprsed............
as for the poetry........David Icke anyone??

Well - get real. I expect most of the new signings have got get out clauses in their contracts. I wonder what the Ramirez minimum bid is - confidential of course and I am sure will never be circulated in the "unlikely" demise of our Prem status. Does anyone not think that Lallana and Lambert won't follow them out the door having had a taste. Oh I am sure the defence and goalkeepers won't be cherri-picked - they will be quite safe with us. That's if RL doesn't go in January - if that reverse psychology interview last week by NA purporting to support RL doesn't invite bids I will be most surprsed............ as for the poetry........David Icke anyone?? st bevois

I suggest we sign Silvestre (free agent) to replace Fox and adopt a more defensive midfield with Chaplow replacing Puncheon to give Clyne more cover.
I also suggest somebody has a word with NA to tell him it's not compulsory to use all 3 subs, just Mayuka would have sufficed,

I saw enough yesterday to convince me that Adkins is coming around, tactically. Mayuka was the right call, as was reeves, meanwhile had spiderman's last shot taken a deflection instead of hitting santos in the face, we would have left with a famous draw.

We can get a point against WBA if we close the shop and defend as a team, but these can do ourselves a massive favor by picking up results in November. 7 points from Swansea home, qpr away and Norwich home, and we will be in a much improved position. West Bron away and Newcastle at home are virtually write-offs, though Newcastle at home will be a lot more fun if Ramirez is back, with Tad lee.

Drop fox, bring on the shaman. Leave guly on the bench and open in mergncy only. Start mayuka with J-rod or srl.

Yoshida AVERAGE???? You obviously have had very little experience of either playing or watching football at any level Maya Yoshida has the ability to become one of the prems top centre backs I just hope we can get another one of the same quality come Jan We may then have chance

When we were in L1 I remember several posters on here jumped on a bandwagon where they were all saying that we were playing fancydan football and not getting stuck inlike other teams did to us.
When we got to the Championship they were saying we only got there by the skin of our teeth and would fail if we kept playing tippytappy. Get some real players in and learn real football.
Unfortunately we got promoted again and so they turned their doomngloom perspective on to us struggling in the Prem.
At last they have got something right and keep reminding us ad nauseum.
I said get ready to lose a few games and we have.
Enjoyed the football as I sit in my STH seat and support my team.
Disappointed in the "fans" who keep stabbing the manager and players of my team in the back at every oppurtunity and repeating the same regurgitated nonsense.
Swap places with Pompey?
Swap places with Bournemouth?
Swap places with Brighton?
Swap places with any other team in local vicinity?
Get real.
We are in the Premier League , playing against some very good teams and we need something to go right and fill the players with some confidence.
Confidence will not come from the disgusting practice of booing our own players and then rubbishing them and the management on here.
To all those posters who spend more time developing their conspiracy theories about Cortese and all that is wrong in their minds.
Get Rupert back? Then you will know what is coming next...... bankruptcy as he lines his and his mates pockets!!!
Support the Saints ?
yes please.

Just one very nicely taken penalty, very little else to write home about.
I do love a penalty. Was it late in the game?
No it was 66th minute, a clumsy and unecessary lunge by Michalik.
Oh dear. Shame it wasn't the 94th minute.

So many negative comments from fans that forget that the core of the team were playing league 1 two years ago and therefore have unrealistic expectations.

Perhaps these are the same fans that only know how to support and sing when we are winning?

NA is making mistakes with changing a system thats proven and weird substitutions but sacking is not the answer, maybe a mentor needed.

At the end of the day we are new to this league and have to catch up, wise up and speed up with a chairman pulling too many of the strings I feel on the pitch but we are only a couple of points from safety and at the end of the season probably one of the lowest points totals will see forth from bottom safe.

COYR! PS NA - Please start Mayuka, Shaw and bring back Lee and Steeeve!

I do like this post Thank you
Me, too! I also like what the increasingly feisty H.E. Bob said sometime later.

BBC had it as SIX shots on target.

If you're interested, that is.
I was very interested: unfortunately only two made it to the target, the goal and the one immediately before hand, which the keeper parried - the Spurs defence did a far better job at last ditch defending for the rest.....but at least we tried, far better than the previous weeks. I hadn't realised Wet Spam had come on so far so quickly - only a month ago they were part of our "season starts now!" shout. Now they are in the top ten of the best league in the World (without playing hardly any of the top sides). Easy solution then - don't need any more players - just flex the financial muscle and get old Sam to break his contract lol!!! Just because some of us voice an opinion doesn't mean to say that we leave early or boo. Never do that and I support all those against booing and slagging the players at the ground. I think Lallana is defensively niave - look at the goals again and see how Spurs loaded our left side with players, pulling DF out of position and Lallana is at least 10 yards off his man - same thing happened against Fulham. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate him for his attacking talent and loyalty - he is just being asked to do a job in this league on our left that we got away with in the one below and is now being exploited by the opposition for all to see week in week out. A total lack of tactical nous and planning. Most of us are just **** at some of the missed opportunities in the recent games and wih NA not sticking with formations that appear to work. As for the comments about Saints still being the nucleus of a League 1 sde well that is ridiculous - there is hardly anyone left fom the AP era as I have posted previously. Only Adam, SRL and Fonte were on show against Spurs and the first two have shown that they are fit to move up the levels. Fonte probably got the nod because JH has looked so uncomfortable against pace this season. Unfortunately bad luck (injuries to key players etc) often goes along with poor results and is often the epitaph of teams that go down. I hope not - or all the good work will be undone. I don't like managerial merry-go-rounds, but you get to a point where you have to take a long hard look and alot of people are looking. I hope the next round of "our season starts now" comes to fruition, I really do. Chelsea bust a gut to get AVB and then made a massive call to replace him - a bit like the Special One making a sub before half time, I don't think they regret that. I hope NA doesn't get subbed before the end, and we can come up with a good second half perormance, but sometimes you need someone to come in and make an impact!

so from what i understand NC is worse than darth vader, NA is such a bad manager he should be at poopey, le tiss never says or does anything wrong (i could tell you some stories about him, but people wouldnt believe and i cant be bothered as i like him aswell!), fox should be expected to cover the entire left side without help, clyne never makes mistakes (fell over twice v manure 1 for a goal and got done by bale on sun), you dont go to support the team you go to moan at a player or 2, happy clappers dont see anything, we are very very lucky to be in the prem and it had nothing to do with NA as NC picks the team, we didnt buy any decent players in the window even though the fans knew who we needed!, we need to bring in a prem manager, well i`ve had a think and know of a manager whos has prem experience, mark hughes! he has lots of prem experience and we might be able to tempt him away from his current club! oh no wait hes doing so well at the mo! changing manager costs millions in the window and you might not stay up even then! NA is a prem manager and when we are half way up the table the moany groanys will have to shut up for once!
COYR`s (oh no wait cant do that some dont like it)
