This live event has finished
- Saints beaten handsomely at Elland Road
- They fail to force Leeds keeper Jamie Ashdown into a save during the game
- Michael Tonge, El-Hadji Diouf and a Luciano Becchio penalty do the damage
- Manner of the performance as much as the result heaps more pressure on Nigel Adkins
An awful display from Saints who are dumped out.
Didn't even manage to make Jamie Ashdown make a single save.
FULL TIME - Leeds 3 Saints 0
GOAL - 90 - deep into stoppage time Leeds add insult to injury with another goal.
Shaw drags down Tonge in the area to concede a penalty.
Becchio's first touch is take the penalty and sends Davis the wrong way.
Leeds 3 Saints 0
GOAL - 88 - game over as Leeds score again.
Austin gets through on goal, Davis make a good save but El-Hadji Diouf is able to pick the ball up and stick away the rebound.
Awful display from Saints just about capped off.
Leeds 2 Saints 0
Saints are at least getting a bit of pressure on Leeds in the closing stages.
Still no clear cut chances but at least there is a little more hope.
Saints have registered a shot on target - but it was blocked before it got to the keeper
Guly do Prado appears to throw his head towards Michael Brown but gets away with it despite Leeds protests.
Reeves goes in the book moments later.
Saints do at least look like they have a bit of life about them after the changes.
Can they get a shot on target to get themselves a goal?
Double change for Saints on 67 minutes. Lloyd Isgrove comes on for a first ever Saints appearance. Another youngster in Luke Shaw also on.
Experienced heads Tadanari Lee and Steve De Ridder off.
Lee was returning from injury but it doesn't say much for De Ridder.
Still only one up front.
Varney gets through one-on-one but Davis stands up tall and makes a fantastic save to keep Saints in the game
Saints have been so lacklustre that you start to wonder whether this somehow might be their night. It's a funny old game
Dan Seaborne is the first player in the book
Still not a shot from Saints...
Nothing much doing for Saints in the early stages of the second half.
They really need to get something going.
Second half underway
Another first half where Saints failed to get in a single shot off target, let alone on target, despite getting into some good positions out wide.
Leeds 1 Saints 0
GOAL - 34 - Varney gets down the left, cuts inside and see his shot saved by Davis but Michael Tonge steams in to fire home from the edge of the area.
Leeds 1 Saints 0
Varney picks up a short backpass from Seaborne and lifts it towards goal but it hits the bar and bounces clear
Luke Varney's shot threatens but goes narrowly wide - Davis gets a touch but the referee didn't see it.
Good game this one. Plenty of attacking threat from both teams even if there hasn't yet been a clear cut chance
Some Leeds fans thought they had taken the lead but Luke Varney somehow missed from a yard out. Luckily for him the offside flag went up.
The Elland Road crowd are predictably well behind their team while Leeds are fired up.
Saints need to see out this early pressure and then take control.
The game is underway
Interestingly Leeds have three former Pompey players in their side. David Norris, who scored a certain goal at St mary's last season, is on the bench.
