Laudrup risks striker Michu missing Saints-Swansea clash

Michael Laudrup Michael Laudrup

Michael Laudrup will not be tempted to leave top scorer Michu out of his side against Chelsea, despite knowing a booking would see the Spaniard miss a clash with Saints the Swansea boss believes is more important.

Michu, who was linked with a move to Saints last May, has quickly become a cult hero among the Liberty Stadium faithful after scoring seven goals in just 11 appearances since arriving from Rayo Vallecano in a £2.5million deal in the summer.

The midfielder's goalscoring prowess has seen him start the last three games up front, but while his goal count has been a positive, his yellow card tally of four is potentially a headache for his manager.

With Swansea's target once again being Premier League survival, Laudrup knows it is the games against sides in the lower half of the table that will go a long way to deciding the Welsh club's destiny.

But the Dane does not plan to leave Michu out against the embattled Blues, although he has spoken to the player about the matter.

Laudrup said: "He is a very important player, he is our top scorer, his movement is good and he is making assists. I have spoken to him about it and I said 'I want you to play'.

"The fifth booking; when it comes it comes. He is tall and with his long legs there may be a tackle where he will think he can get the ball and may give away a foul and get a yellow, that happens.

"But I will say not to do anything silly, don't get booked for saying anything to the referee or anything like that. But it can come at any time.

"He wants to play against Chelsea and he wants to play against Southampton so when it comes it comes."

But Laudrup believes any points picked up against Chelsea will be a bonus, compared with the importance of denying Saints a result at St Mary’s next weekend.

He said: "We are not competing with Chelsea in the table, to win at Southampton would mean a lot as it would be three extra points for us and none for them.

"I always prefer to beat the teams we are fighting directly with in the table. What we do against the big clubs is a bonus."

No, this is a good story. I don't think we should only be interested in what's happening on our own doorstep. Swansea will be a massive game and I'd rather we start the build up to it early than have another day of pointless navel gazing.

This is tenuous, but how about something from Mazzy Star's third album, 1996's 'Among My Swan(sea)'?

My favourite is this track, called 'Flowers In December'. Eagle-eyed viewers will notice that singer Hope Sandoval isn't exactly ugly.

Is this true about Cork and Gaston ?
It can have it's own story if they don't say they are back to help save Nige's job.

In fact better keep it hush hush and just surprise the opposition on the night.

MGRA - can you tell us exactly how the injury was caused, please? Sounds like you have some inside info.
yes it was caused by players feeling the need to give tackles 100% in training. Anyone that knows anything about football knows how odd that is.... that said, some "badged" poster here the other week thought it was ok to risk a 10 million player with "open season" training... anyway, thats by-the-by, the reality is that with an injury like that, he will not kick a ball in the Prem before December and anyone who thinks otherwise is an optimist... and I applaud that. But reality is reality.... human tissue heals in its own time and gimicks like O-tanks etc etc just "help"...

Aint that the truth?

As I repeatedly say, everyone forgets that the internet has a memory. And they always get caught out. Whether it's this, Saints2701 posting about shouting abuse at Danny Fox, Tebourba and Thomasupton answering the wrong questions and proving they are the same person or even our friend ghk saying he wished I'd been hit harder when some sod threw a lump of lead at me at a game, the internet keeps a record.
