Adkins: One "unfortunate" error cost us
5:33pm Saturday 10th November 2012 in Sport
Nigel Adkins was left to rue “one unfortunate decision” that cost his side a victory against Swansea.
Saints were denied a second win of the campaign when Nathan Dyer pounced on a defensive error to cancel out Morgan Schneiderlin’s opener at St Mary's.
Keeper Paulo Gazzaniga’s poor pass out to Maya Yoshida bounced awkwardly in front of the defender and was miscontrolled, allowing former Saints winger Dyer to dispossess him, drive forward and fire in off the far post.
“I thought we showed a good defensive resolve, but we’ve actually got on the front foot and caused Swansea a lot of problems,” said Adkins of his side’s performance.
“One unfortunate decision from a young goalkeeper has resulted in the ball in the back of our net, but there’s a lot of positives that we’ve got to take from this game and we will do.
“We’ve dominated the game for long spells. Obviously, Swansea are a very good passing side, and that was demonstrated in the first five minutes, but I thought we had a very good defensive shape about ourselves.
“The players should take a lot of credit about that, because they’ve worked very hard.”
