King qualifies for Track World Cup final

Great Britain enjoyed a strong showing in the opening session of the Track World Cup in Glasgow, qualifying for three finals, while crashing out of another at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

Just off the London Road, opposite Celtic Park and with head coach Shane Sutton present little more than a week after he was knocked off his bike, Britain's succession planning following the 2012 Olympics began in earnest.

Hampshrire’s Olympic and world champion Dani King was joined by Laura Trott and Elinor Barker, the world junior road time-trial champion, in the women's team pursuit and were second-fastest qualifiers for the final behind Australia.

Two-time Olympic gold medallist Ed Clancy began his experiment with the team sprint, riding alongside London 2012 winners Philip Hindes and Jason Kenny, in fine fashion.

The trio, with Clancy taking the place of Sir Chris Hoy, qualified second fastest in 44.134 seconds.

Germany were in the same heat as the hosts and qualified fastest in 43.790secs to set-up a final meeting with the hosts.

Jess Varnish and Becky James were second fastest in the corresponding women's event to also advance to the final.
