Clattenburg to return to action at Saints

Mark Clattenburg Mark Clattenburg

Mark Clattenburg will referee his first match since being cleared of racism allegations when he takes charge of Saints' home game against Norwich next Wednesday.

The 37-year-old had been accused by Chelsea of making a racist remark to John Obi Mikel during a game with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge last month.

However, the Football Association yesterday announced that no action would be taken against the official, adding that Clattenburg had no case to answer.

Clattenburg will be the fourth official in the Premier League game between Tottenham and West Ham on Sunday, before returning to normal duty at St Mary's next week.

Not something I will look foward to as I do not rate Clattenburg as a referee. He makes too many mistakes and misses too many obvious fouls!! Just hope it doesnt affect the result on Wed!

Oh great Mark Clattenburke.

The injuries sustained by Newcastle will hopefully play a big role on Saturday.

HOWEVER, Clattenspoon may have a bigger influence.

If we give him a good welcome and chant "Norwich think youre racist" he`s bound to give us a couple of penalties.

You're all idiots, Clattenburg is a top referee. I've had the pleasure of meeting him myself and must say he's a top bloke! I will be giving him a rousing reception at SMS and hope everyone else joins in with me, although I understand that some people are just too bigoted to do so.

Feel sorry for the bloke! Chelsea dragged his name through the mud without even checking their facts first. I’m all for giving the ref some abuse from time to time (that’s always been part of the game) but it will be embarrassing if our fans abuse him for this. We should treat him like any other ref….

It was a shame that this was all made public in the first place. Chelsea were right to ask the FA to investigate as it was an official complaint of a racist nature. The fact that it may have been misheard or plainly a mistake by a non natural english speaker is immaterial. What is a problem is that it was broadcast into the public domain before any investigation was made. An apology and compensation should be made to Mark Clattenburg. Not necessarily by Chelsea but most certainly by the person who put this into the media and by the media for not keeping it under wraps until the outcome was known. Once again shoddy, underhand media operations. and for media read ALL forms including BBC ITV and SKY as they all peddled this story to the masses.
Mark Clattenburg needs to be congratulated in the manner he has conducted himself during this long and protracted investigation. I wonder what will happen to the precious footballers who started this whole thing off ?

Lots of problems in football at the moment and a lot of them to do with chelsea. What a badly run club they seem to be.over hyped and overpaid players. And an owner and a chief executive who a lot of people think shouldn't be over here.CHELSEA the only top 10 club we haven't played yet. When we do face them let's make sure we get 6 POINTS from them.COYR

Oh no! - how can a top referee be responsible for so many Clattenburg clangers. You may think he is a top referee but I am entitled to my opinion and I do not think he is - why does that make me a bigot. Please think before yo accuse other people!

Garbage, he's easily one of the best (of a bad bunch maybe? ).
All refs miss some fouls, it's to be expected when the game's played at 100mph, but he's one of the few that commands respect from players (apart from CFC)

Lets give him a warm reception, he's been through hell over the past 4 weeks and didnt deserve what happened to him.

If we are nice he might award Sir Ricky a pen!

Clattenburg didn't deserve the treatment he received from Chelski or the Sweet FA. Give him a good reception and show that we are honest and decent fans of a great club.

I do not like the tone of your reply! Iam entitled to my opinion just as much as you. Don't call me idiot, a bigot or garbage!! Not language you should be using! Just who do you think you are!
