Saints aiming for first Prem treble since 2003

Paulo Gazzaniga Paulo Gazzaniga

Paulo Gazzaniga is aiming to become the first Saints keeper to keep back-to-back Premier League clean sheets since October 2003 as the club bid to notch a hat-trick of consecutive top fight victories.

The last time Saints managed three Premier League wins on the spin was September 2003, as they defeated Manchester United, Wolves and Tottenham – the game that finished Glenn Hoddle’s time at White Hart Lane.

Just a month later the team, managed by Gordon Strachan the season after they had reached the FA Cup final and finished eighth in the top flight, kept back-to-back clean sheets – a feat they didn’t manage for another one and a half seasons at the highest level of English football.

The 20-year-old Argentinean keeper Gazzangia could help himself to a little slice of Saints history if he can keep out Norwich at St Mary’s tonight, just as he did with Newcastle.

Another Saints win, to add to victories over QPR and the Magpies, would also mark another milestone.

Resurgent Saints have dragged themselves up the table thanks to their recent points haul but know they face a strong team in Norwich, who have enjoyed a fruitful spell under the leadership of Chris Hughton.

Only Manchester United and Manchester City have picked up more Premier League points in the last six games than the Canaries.

I've put money on another 2-0 tonight and Rickie Lambert will score both goals.

Not according to the Norwich local rag & their web site, still to be decided.
Should be a cracking game both teams on the up, Saints to edge it 2-0,Gaston 1st goal scorer.

I hold no bad will against Norwich. They have done well since returning to the top flight and play good football. I don't even mind Delia.

I do however think we are in the ascendancy and will win tonight. I'm not worried about records, clean sheets or other stats. I just think we will win 2-1 maybe 3-1 if we can score early. The range of players we have that can score is impressive. Nobody can say we rely just on Rickie, we have 4-5 players who are always likely to score.

It should be a great game to watch tonight.

7 points from the next 9 will do nicely thank you!
I think tonight will be tougher than Saturday as I think Norwich will roll their sleeves up and scrap alot more than Newcastle did to avoid defeat.

I think tonight’s game will be harder than Newcastle. The lads are gonna have to put a real shift in as Norwich will see this as a game they can we. Hopefully we send them away packing! If we do play with the flair we’ve had of late then in sure we will but we need to keep it tight at the back. Balls will be whipped in, left right and center.

Villa winning last night not such a bad thing - Saints always play better when the game has a little bit more edge about it. A win would be fantastic to draw the likes of Norwich and Wigan into the mix and pile some more pressure on QPR and Reading. With momentum, you never know what can happen at Anfield - will be hoping Suarez picks up a fifth booking tonight at Spurs... and that Sterling gets sent off maybe :)

We're going to be postponing a fixture in two weeks as well, so the more points we can get on the board the better.

Really looking forward to this one tonight. Good test of our ability to cope with the long ball - Fonte seems to be adapting well and Yoshi is looking good. 2 or 3 -1 please! Punch is in my fantasy team (he's cheap!) so a brace from him and one from Lambo would be ideal with a shut out from Gazzaniga. (I'm always an optimist).

h?

Perhaps the Canary has been attracted here because he's heard Seed is about.

Anyhow, I have e mailed Nicola today to tell him if Delia turns up tonight she won't be too impressed with the club's regular run-of-the-mill catering. I explained she usually has three canaries baked in a puff pastry and he should offer her one - explaining it's called the St Marys Tweetie Pie.
