9:37pm

Full time - Saints 1 Norwich 1

9:32pm

Late changes for both teams with Jay Rodriguez on for Puncheon.

Elliott Bennett on for Snodgrass for Norwich.

Four minutes of stoppage time.

9:29pm

Slightly frantic stuff now.

Norwich have a decent penalty appeal waved away as Shaw challenges Snodgrass from behind in the area before Lambert fires over from inside the area at the other end.

Saints make a change on 85 minutes with Shaw limping off after that challenge for Ben Reeves.

9:26pm

First change for Norwich on 81 minutes. Morison on for Holt who doesn't look happy and disappears straight down the tunnel.

9:21pm

This is really not a classic but the three points are there for the taking.

Another win for Saints would be massive and having got this far they have more than ten minutes left to do it.

9:12pm

Great effort from Jason Puncheon.

He cut in from the right onto his left foot and his curling shot was creeping in at the far post but Bunn does well to save.

9:09pm

Good save from Gazzaniga.

Holt got free at the far post from a corner.

His header was on target.

You would have expected Gazzaniga to make the save and he did.

9:05pm

For the first time in the game Norwich are the better team

9:01pm

Fairly even once more in the second half

8:55pm

Great free kick routine from Saints sees Ramirez pick out Jose Fonte unmarked at the far post. Not the best finish though as his volley somehow manages to go backwards.

8:50pm

The second half is underway

8:32pm

Half time - Saints 1 Norwich 1

8:32pm

GOAL - 45 minutes

Horrible error from Paulo Gazzaniga.

Clyne the first player in the book for a bit of a rash challenge to concede a free kick on the edge of the area on the right side.

Robert Snodgrass steps up to take it, trying to drill it low with his left foot.

It's not a great strike and Gazzaniga appears to have it covered diving down to his left but he lets it squirm through his body.

Saints 1 Norwich 1

8:29pm

Inswinging free kick from the other side from Gaston Ramirez just needed any sort of touch to divert it in but it flashes just wide of the far post

8:21pm

GOAL - 32 minutes - Lambert

Saints get a double stroke of luck to take the lead.

Adam Lallana whips in a right footed free kick from left. A Saints header comes off the back of a Norwich head and pinballs straight to Lambert.

The ball appeared to strike his hand but it was from point blank range and Mark Clattenburg didn't blow up.

Lambert slides down to meet the ball and guides it past Mark Bunn and into the bottom corner

Saints 1 Norwich 0

8:14pm

Really not too much in this. Certainly not a very good game.

Saints are the better team on the ball and are showing by far the greater attacking threat, but there have been very few chances.

Norwich are remaining tight aad compact and getting men behind the ball, which makes it hard.

8:13pm

Lallana shows great technique to volley a left footed shot just over the bar from Lambert's cross.

8:01pm

Norwich are getting numbers behind the ball which is making it hard for Saints.

That said they have not looked like creating anything yet.

7:57pm

Lambert cushions a header back across goal but Norwich are able to clear

We are moments away from kick-off at St Mary's

7:12pm

Norwich manager Chris Hughton has "no fears" about Mark Bunn proving himself an able deputy for John Ruddy withthe England goalkeeper out of the Saints game.

Ruddy has conceded just two goals in his last six appearances as the Canaries recovered from an appalling start to the season.

However, the 26-year-old hobbled out during the closing stages at Everton on Saturday, where a last-minute equaliser from Sebastien Bassong extended Norwich's unbeaten run to seven matches.

His absence tonight means Bunn, signed from Blackburn in August, will be set for his first Barclays Premier League start since January.

Hughton, though, has every confidence in the 28-year-old, who saved a crucial last-gasp penalty from Clint Dempsey as Norwich knocked Tottenham out of the Capital One Cup last month.

"Mark is a good goalkeeper, and if it is a case that he comes in for whatever period of time, then we have no fears about that," Hughton said.

"When we brought him in originally that was the exact reason, because of his experience."

6:58pm

Norwich: Bunn, Garrido, Bassong, R Bennett, Whittaker, Pilkington, Johnson, Tettey, Snodgrass, Hoolahan, Holt.

Subs: Rudd, R Martin, Howson, Jackson, Morison, E Bennett, Barnett.

6:56pm

Saints: Gazzaniga, Clyne, Fonte, Yoshida, Shaw, Puncheon, Schneiderlin, Cork, Lallana, Ramírez, Lambert.

Subs: K Davis, Hooiveld, Reeves, S Davis, Rodriguez, Do Prado, Mayuka.

6:53pm

Saints name an unchanged side for the fourth game in a row

6:45pm

Tonight's game is also notable for the return to refereeing of Mark Clattenburg.

6:06pm

Nigel Adkins is also in bouyant mood.

"We've had 13 different goalscorers this season so we've got goals throughout the team, but the important thing for us is can we build on the clean sheet from the last game against Newcastle," Adkins said.

"We had a steady and stable back four and goalkeeper which is something we haven't had since the start of the campaign due to injuries, and the players are all working very hard as a team together.

"The players are working very hard on the training ground and what we've got is a group of players who are getting the just rewards for putting the work in home and away.

"We've accustomed ourselves very quickly the demands of the Premier League.

"We talk about lessons learned throughout the campaign and the players are working very, very hard to improve.

"There's a forward momentum about ourselves, and a growing belief about everybody.

"Sunday's performance was really good. We've got Gaston Ramirez, Adam Lallana, and Jason Puncheon with Rickie Lambert, and there was a good solid base behind them as a platform for some great attacking football that got the supporters off their feet at the weekend."

6:05pm

Norwich boss Chris Hughton on tonight's game: "Southampton are a team playing well at the moment, they are at home, and we will need to give a good account of ourselves to get something.

"It is about going into our game the way we have of late, showing our confidence, and trying to nullify the quality that they have got, but also play our own game."

5:45pm

For Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy is a major doubt. Mark Bunn is standing by to deputise.

Norwich will definitely be without centre-back Michael Turner because of a shoulder problem, although versatile defender Russ Martin is fit again following his back injury.

5:44pm

The early team news for Saints is that top scorer Rickie Lambert is expected to have overcome a knock and should feature against former Rochdale team-mate Grant Holt.

Lambert came off in the 2-0 defeat of Newcastle due to the leg complaint, but trained yesterday and should be involved against the Canaries.

However, the game could come too soon for Danny Fox after missing Sunday with a knee complaint, while Frazer Richardson and Richard Chaplow are also expect to remain sidelined.

5:42pm

It's just over two hours until kick off at St Mary's as Saints prepare to take on Norwich.

Nigel Adkins' men are hoping to make it back-to-back top flight wins, the first time they will have done that since October 2003.

If they can keep successive clean sheets it will be the first time they have managed that in the Premier League since September 2003.

Norwich though travel to St Mary's in good form and could prove a tougher test than QPR and Newcastle.

Think tonight will be a sterner test than QPR or Newcastle. Both these teams are struggling whilst Norwich are on a good run - which must come to an end sometime! A good win tonight will really set-up the Saints for a very interesting game at Anfield. 6 points from these two games would be a real bonus and let the Premiership know the Saints have arrived, 4 points more than acceptable.

COYR.

Not on live TV here in the Great White North so I will have to put up with Dave Merrington.

It gave me a moment of inspiration though:-

We could raise some serious money with a game called "Merrington Bingo"

Each player gets a card with 12 phrases then listens to the game on the Player.

When DM says "What Saints moousn't do now Adam is.........."

If "go to sleep at the back!"....or "lose their composure!" is in one of your squares, then you cross it off.

As soon your card is full you shout -

"BINGO! IT WAS WRITTEN HERE FIRST!"

If, after 90 minutes, or 5.00pm your card is still empty you shout -

"TEBOURBA!"

We could be on to something here....just need to fill in a few more squares!

Basic goal keeping mistake. Silly freekick. Not sure if that was fair seemed a good tackle, but I would expect a high school goalkeeper to stop that one - not even hit that hard.

Don't knock - support and he'll get better.. Don't suggest Kelv or Borlocks unless you've been to training and have access to the coaching staff thoughts.

I support young Gazza. Very unlucky to make a silly error.. he knows!! doesn;t need us no nothings telling him. He's smashing for a 20 year year old. I'll leave it to the gaffer to make the decisions.

Don't knock - support and he'll get better.. Don't suggest Kelv or Borlocks unless you've been to training and have access to the coaching staff thoughts.

Lads were tired out.. Jaded game.. As Mack says.. 4 unbeaten 4 from 6 so far this week - game to come.. who is it Sat.. another northern lot innit?
I like Gazza too but we just can NOT carry him. The defence is looking better and better. Gazza cost us tonight as he did against Swansea, he might have got away with errors in league 1 but not here and now.
Yes he is only 20, yes give him experience but if we were to go down due to these unforced errors would you still forgive him?
I think we should buy the Norwich keeper... He looked useful.
Gazza in the sticks on Saturday and I will be worried. He's had 1 very good game in the last 5 or 6... We need a keeper that's good for 5 or 6 games with the odd bad one.
I know Gazza will be feeling crap and he is a Saints player that I will support but how many mistakes can we afford?

what if clyne hadnt slipped over against manure or hadnt let bale beat him to the cross he scored from, then we might of had 2-6pts more. all players make mistakes and no one has said that clyne should have been dropped after his, no we supported him and now hes showing what he can do. i think the same will be true for gazza, show faith in him and he will repay it. yes he has made a bad mistake but so have the other keepers, and i think gazza has shown more positives than the other 2.

Me, too.

I do agree with Norgie to a point. We've conceded three goals in the last four matches and Gazza has been involved in all of them ...... but, he's also made some good saves, too.

It's a tough call. A striker balloons over when he should have scored and we soon forget, but a goalie lets in a soft goal and we always remember.

Kelvin? Love him, but I remember the soft one which cost as 2 points at home to Preston a few years ago ..... and there were others.

In the end, it was a decent point against difficult opponents given that we were far from at our best. Roll on Saturday. If we do win (and I think we've a great chance) I fear for Brendon Rodgers....... Now THAT might be a job Di Matteo would fancy.

Disappointing perform ance tonight albeit a point earnt better than a loss! What was apparent tonight was the absent midfield. Spider, Cork and Ramirez did not perform! I noticed that Reeves replaced JWP on the bench no doubt to replace Shaw which he did. Can someone explain to me how Guly is ahead of JWP on the bench and why JWP in any event not starting. We heard all the hype about him justifiably in my opinion from NA at the beginning of the season identical to what he's saying about Shaw now!!

Shaw was my man of the match an excellent performance!

I would p,ay Davies in goal and JWP for Spuder on Saturday!!!!!

The players looked tired. The fans looked tired. The fans looked tired, hell I was tired and cold dammit, but we did not lose. Four unbeaten in the premier league now and a good point against an in form Norwich.

I just hope the lads are not still knackered come Saturday. If Adkins had made changes half would have cirticised him. He didn't and we did not win the other half may have a go.

I was more dissapointed with the lack of subsititutions. What is the point of having Mayuka if he is not allowed to terorise opponants at the end of a game. Lambert and Rodriguez are not inspirational together, When he subbed Lambert for Rodriguez last week it was very different and worked well.

I am moving more into the give Kelv a chance camp. What is the point of being second in line if you do not have the oppotunity to step up when first choice keeps stuffing up. Judging from Adkins post match talk, could be changes. He has however made saves and looks confident. Tricky but Super Kelv shades it for me.

All in all a night for Bovril, not a night that will live long in memory.

Just got in. For me it was a good game of football.
We dominated the first 40 mins just like we did on Sunday. Our work ate and passing was excellet. Norwich just didn't give us the space that Newcastle did (as most of us suspected).
Gutted for Gazza...the timing of his blooper couldn't have been worse. Turned the game without doubt.
Plus points...our defence held firm when Norwich pressed and we never stopped running and chasing for a winner. Norwich did well to pack out their box...just a shame we couldn't find the space to put in the winner.

MOM Luke Shaw...best player on the pitch by a country mile. England awaits the lad.

FOM (Fattie Of the Match) award goes to Grant Holt.

Get anything from Anfield and we should be happy...but the Reading game will be a must win.

A bit shabby tonite, Rickie won so many headers but we never capitalised. Too many off the pace tonight and NA should have freshened it up much earlier.

I thought norwich were decent and played for a draw and we looked a tad jaded.

Picking up premier league points when not at our best

Liverpool will have to come at us on sat and i think we could get something there.

Shaw was very good tonight for someone so young.

Sort the keeper situation out and i am not sure what to think on this,

What happens if we move kelvin back in and we start letting goals in again ?

Then we have no clear best keeper

And Back to square one. Gazza has been part of our best run keeping goals out.

As a happy clapper I am a bit disappointed, but let us face it Norwich were basically better than us, but they couldn't beat us, that's progress. I suspect JWP was held back in case he was needed to replace Spider on Saturday if he had picked up another yellow, but he didn't really put himself about much and never got anywhere near picking up a card. Fonte was my MoM, but Shaw was immense. Poor old Gazza one mistake and he gets punished, it just ain't fair. In my view we were playing against 14 men tonight, the Officials were fairly inept, and as was said on Solent, all of the 50/50 decisions went Norwich way, and we didn't get any breaks at all.

Gazzaniga made one mistake and everyone says we should put kelvin back. In fairness gazzaniga made the least mistakes of any player in our team, we gave away lots of passes and Nigel should probably have played Rodriguez/ mayuka and with 20 mins before time at least. Everyone should look back at all the goals kelvin let in this season (18 I think) and 2/3 of those should have been easy saves for a keeper of his experience. At the end of the day we should be content with a draw, considering the referee it could have been much worse. Ricky looked get tired in the second half. I'd like to see mayuka and jay both get a starting place against Liverpool, they'll be desperate to show what they are getting paid for and lambert needs a well earned rest (sub him on later so he gets to play against his home team)
Nigel should not be scared to make subs when we need more energy in the team.

We dominated the first half and should have gone in in front. We didn't and they shaded the second half. I'll take the point though. I still think in the Prem you need to use a bit of squad rotation - the top teams do - it's the reality of life when games come thick and fast.

I did say earlier today that we wouldn't get as much space and that we would tire second half if we tried to play the same way as Sunday and so it proved.
Negatives (for me)
- Should have been a different approach to the game tactically and a chance to throw some fresh legs in.
- If the goal hadn't gone in right on half time, perhaps the result might have been different.
- Clattentwat - what a joke!
Positives
- Luke and Adam
- a point against a tough to beat team
- Looking more solid at the back, Jose baby played well
- Unbeaten in 4

Fun part of the night - singing You're just a sh1t Ricky Lambert to Grant Holt! Got home and watched the game again on Football First and even the commentators talked about it - Hilarious!

Norwich played 9 1 formation for 90% of the game.. they were boring, hoofed it too often and cheated like hell. The ref was absolutely useless.

Both teams were either knackered or saving themselves for Saturday. This was a forgettable game but a point is a point we'll have it.

To those picking on young Paulo... get over yourselves and let the manager manage the lads are doing fine.

its the fact that we are gifting goals away to easy, (or gazza is).

Slightly disappointing result as once again Saints have let more points slip (now 13) from a winning position. Just cannot close out a game which brings us back to the endless argument about NA's policy on using substitutes. I also think it a little unfair to castigate Gazza and blaming him for costing us 2 points. If the forwards had scored a couple of goals when, according to match reports, Saints had the better of the 1st half, the slip wouldn't have been as costly. After all football is a team game.

The goal looked a team failure as the wall was not correctly positioned. The pundits on MOTD mentioned it but they were too busy castagating Gazza to show who lined it up.
Gaaza is a young keeper learning and at this level mistakes will be more costly. If his confidence has gone then we must loan him out to learn.

Anyway we could not take the necessary three points and on Saturday the pace of Suarez/Sterling will be an interesting test for our defensive sytsem. Hopefully the team will cope better than in the past for if they allow one on ones we will be done.

It was not until I watched MoD that you could see how badly the wall was set up, presumably, that is Gazzas call to create the positioning of it for best effect? It was Puncheon that realised what was happening at the last minute and was close to blocking the shot, but may have distracted Gazza in his attempt to clear, it happened move on. In my opinion for Saturdays game I would use either of the more experienced GKs, not because of what has happened recently, but just for their better knowledge of the game.

First: I agree with most of what Thornhill said above.

Watching on a really bad thread, it was hard to judge most things. EG, I can't really comment on the ref, some things were wrong but he seemed an improvement on Sunday. Maybe my thread went awol at the wrong times.

As for your comment re the free kick, Oldfan, I agree. When I watched it again, I thought to myself the problems started with Clyne's tackle (on the replays I saw, he did get the player), continued with the wall placement and then ..... what was the player (who was it? Punch or Clyne, I couldn't make it out) doing who was drifting between Snodgrass and Gazza? He wasn't marking anyone and wasn't putting himself in a covering position. He was just in the way. I might have understood it if it had been a Norwich player had been there, deliberately (but legally) obstructing the keeper's line of vision.

So it was Punch. I can see why you say he was trying to rectify a problem but surely he has a job to do and couldn't have been doing it if he then ran across the area like that.

Maybe Gazza knew what wall he wanted and placed it there deliberately so that it covered a 'Lambertesque, round the wall, near post shot while giving him a decent view of a direct hit. Maybe that line of reason went out the window when Punch ran across him. Nevertheless, it was a clanger.

Well, I'm off to continue my quest to get all of France speaking English. It's working!

OSPREYSAINT says...

It was Puncheon that was in Gazzas vision, but only because he twigged too late, what was happening, he was inches from blocking the shot, but in the process ran across Gazzas sight line and may have been enough of a distraction to put Gazza off. A shorter GK would probably have got down behind the ball quicker, but that is the way things go. Stoke City GK made an equally bad gaff and let a goal in, but wasn't punished as Stoke won 2 1!
