Alex Dilmaghani is hoping he can rekindle his boxing career when he steps back into the ring at Southampton Guildhall tonight.

The 22-year-old had such a bright start to his career, fighting five times in his first year as a pro after being snapped up by Hatton Promotions.

Dilmaghani subsequently moved south but a couple of management changes saw his progress come to a grinding halt due to inactivity.

He has boxed just once in almost two and a half years.

He is now trained and managed by Wayne Batten, though, and back in action against Jason Nesbitt this evening.

“The most important thing about Alex has been inactive through the politics of boxing,” explained Batten.

“But I will give him a lot of credit for having the courage to go out to Mexico a couple of times and help out with Juan Marquez .

“That is a gym full of world champions and you can’t buy that experience.

“He’s brought that back with him and now I am managing Alex and training him we have to sit down and have a good chat about the best way forward.

“I’m sure I can progress his career but the most important thing is getting him active again.

“An active fighter is a good fighter.

“Alex has had one fight in two and a half years and hopefully we can get him started again tonight and then keep him active.”
