The third round of the Hampshire Cross Country League took place at Popham Airfield at the weekend – against the background of the local flying club taking off and landing.
The course, organised by Basingstoke & Mid Hants AC, was more akin to a parkland race as it has open grassland with some inclines to break the faster runners’ momemtum, but offering good spectator appeal with the entire field is visible from several vantage points. With eight races for all ages of boys and girls from 13 upwards, distances varied from three to 10 kilometres – all crammed in to three and a half hours racing.
