Saints fans laugh off £5m Lallana 'bid'

Daily Echo: ADAM LALLANA ADAM LALLANA

SAINTS fans have laughed off tabloid rumours claiming Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is lining up a £5m bid for Adam Lallana.

Lallana, 23, only put pen to paper on a new four-year contract last year and has been one of Saints’ stand-out performers so far in their first season back in the top flight, writes SIMON WALTER.

Newcastle boss Pardew, pictured below, who left St Mary’s in 2010, has long been an admirer of Lallana and is supposedly lining up a bid in the January transfer window.

Hundreds of Saints fans took to an online poll at dailyecho.co.uk to give their views, the consensus being it would take far more than £5m to prise Lallana away from St Mary’s – even if the club is willing to sell.

Most do not believe Saints would sell Lallana at any price (54 per cent) and another 33 per cent reckon he would not want to go anyway.

Only 14 per cent reckon Saints would sell Lallana for the right price but less than a third of them (4 per cent) believe £5m would be good money for the club’s captain and playmaker.

“£5m is nowhere near enough for one of the most talented midfield players in the Premier League. Slap a £20m price tag on him and tell Pardew to do one and stop dreaming,” said seventh-junction.

Bwana23 joked: “At that price he must be deluded!!! 15 million nearer his value now!!”

OspreySaint added: “Why would a young bloke who has just had his first kid want to go through the massive upheaval of moving to the other end of the country to join a club that is little better than the one he is currently captaining? It won’t be for the money and there is little chance of bettering his lot there.”

I honestly can't believe they haven't picked up on the very serious story of the Stepford Five. I mean, Saints fans being mind controlled today in and around your town, Shocking. Shame on you Echo. Get some proper journalists at your paper; who knows, maybe the circulation will increase.

Firstly, we don't need to sell.

Secondly, any fee would be dwarfed by the amount we'd lose from relegation.

Thirdly, he's a key member of our squad and epitomises what we believe in.

Fourthly, he's got a young family, is settled and loves the saints.

Fifthly, if he ever leaves, it will be for Arsenal, Spurs or one of the three big North West clubs imo.

Echo has every right to publish the story as it's news, but it is a non-starter and the fans are right.

Obviously if it's end of season and we're down, I would wish him the best of luck if he wanted to go - the guy is class and has shown more than enough loyalty - a legend in the making in my eyes and an example to the likes of the Ox and Theo that the grass isn't always greener elsewhere.

Greetings from a Seagull fan. I have to admit to looking anxiously for Saints results every week. I'd love to see you turn it around and move up the table. Regards Lala, I remember a couple of years ago he was getting a lot of stick from some on here and I said then that he was an awesome talent. Have to agree that if true, this price is risible, got to be £8-10 mill at least.Good luck, really deserve to be doing better than your position suggests.

You are welcome to come and join us in the Premier! We could do with a "local" rival, especially as our true rivals are in a bit of bother.

Just a little. Still they brought it on themselves. Don't think we're quite ready for the step up yet, totally lost discipline on Sat, well and truly got stuffed by Palace. Dunk has a lot to learn about keeping cool under pressure. Good luck against Reading, Ricky still showing his class!

Keefy,
What a pleasant change to read this post from from a Brighton supporter point of view.
I truly would like to have them as our local rival in the Prem, in the near future.
I have got good memories of our visit there last year, we were well treated by both the fans and the stewards on our arrival.
Just a pity about our result.
By all means continue to post as it is a rare treat to have an honest outside view of the Saints.
COYS.

Good luck Brighton.
