GREAT cod continue to be taken from marks off The Needles as Mike King found – fishing from the Lymington based boat ‘Voyager’ skippered by Kevin Duell.
King, from Bishop’s Waltham, used a large squid bait to tempt a 31lb 2oz beauty, writes Chris Clark.
Excellent cod were also recorded during the Keyhaven annual boat cod championships which drew just over 60 competitors, Jamie Miller collecting the £300 top prize with a 24lb 11oz fish. The £225 runner-ups prize was won by Bob Miness with a 20lb 3oz cod. Steve Fisher collected £150 in third with a 16lb 8oz cod.
Jason and Jaon Voller, both Lymington club members, had a day to remember when they tackled Mudeford sandspit during fairly rough conditions. The duo recorded five bass in the session. Thirteen-year-old Jaon Voller, an England junior international, beached the pick of the bunch – of 6lb 8oz – backed up by a smaller fish while dad Jason landed a trio of fish on lugworm.
Sea angling and freshwater fishing are both spotlighted in today's Daily Echo
