Saints can reap reward for fair play

Morgan Schneiderlin Morgan Schneiderlin

Saints are aiming to take advantage of their excellent disciplinary record over the festive period.

Nigel Adkins’ men have been true Saints rather than sinners when it comes to their behaviour on the pitch since the club were promoted to the Premier League.

Having already lost Adam Lallana to injury, Adkins will be desperately hoping not to have further problems or suspensions over a hectic schedule that will see Saints play five games in the space of just 15 days.

But only Morgan Schneiderlin is treading a tightrope with four bookings, meaning he is just one game away from a ban.

The French midfielder has managed to prevent another yellow in recent games, however, and the only other player even closer to the five booking cut-off is Jos Hooiveld with three cautions – and he hasn’t been playing of late.

After that, Saints only have two players on two yellows in the shape of Jose Fonte and Nathaniel Clyne.

Some of Saints’ rivals in the bottom seven have far more problems on their plate, though, going into this weekend’s games.

I am amazed that The Echo have not printed anything at all about the Pompey fiasco.
it is local news and appears in all national press.
The disgrace that Pompey fans must be feeling that they are responsible for this latest mess as they have not pledged the money despite their claims to be the bestest everest ever in the whole of football history fanstuff ever.

Only problem with qualifyingfor EUFA via the fair play league is that we would enter at a very early time and start competitive games in June. Far too early.

Littleton-Saint says...

Such a contrast:

Saints on the brink of European football and Poopey preparing for austerity football under an AFC set-up due to their fans' apathy and disinterest in their ailing, wannabe, League 2 and beyond club.

With the football club all but demised, what remaining entertainment will there be for the land skates? Sea skates beware: you may be on the verge of extinction, too!!

OSPREYSAINT says...
9:01am Sat 15 Dec 12

It is surprising that the Portsmouth fiasco doesn't warrant a thread of it's own, that might persuade the skate WUMs to keep off of our own threads. Would give us chance to discuss their problems if we chose to, without polluting our own threads.
As for the subject of this thread, have we not been a bit to polite and fair? Lack of aggression may have cost us games at times. Not that I condone cheating or simulation, but some of our yellows have been for celebration offences rather than dirty play. Good discipline has to be applauded, arguing with the Official will never achieve anything, so it is good that the Players have accepted decisions, even when they have been blatantly wrong.

Rising_Son says...
9:15am Sat 15 Dec 12

Given some of the appalling refereeing decisions we've seen, our players really are Saints for keeping the number of cards as low as this.

OSPREYSAINT says...
9:16am Sat 15 Dec 12

Norwich have a better disciplinary record as it stands, 13 yellows, no reds, Fulham 13 yellows and 1 red, we have 15 yellows and no reds. Reading have 16 yellow no reds. Arsenal 15 yellows and 1 red.

OSPREYSAINT says...
9:22am Sat 15 Dec 12

It is no surprise that WHU are second from bottom, 33 yellows, but no reds; only Stoke have a worse record 32 yellows and 2 reds.

OSPREYSAINT says...
9:35am Sat 15 Dec 12

And for Mourning and Scrotum75s benefit Portsmouth are 19th in their League with 37 yellows and 2 reds. Oldham have accrued 50 yellows and 3 reds, what are they like?

As for the uglies you forgot Jeff Kenna, that he was a study in ugliness and used it as a frightening tool.

Unfortunately the rumour of Big Sam wanting Ricky again rears it's head.

Found this on the Guardian website, it's a cutting from their list of the worst football grounds in the UK. Guess who made number 5 LOL:

From the barbed-wire-topped walls to the sprawling wasteland, it's an unwelcoming venue. You'd be forgiven for thinking this was a prison. The toilets were clearly designed for no more than two fans at any one time. The seats are bolted directly on to the old-style terracing, offering zero leg room. Then there's that bloody non-stop bell-ringing.

Portsmouth should not have been allowed to play Premiership football at such an ancient stadium. Tradition is one thing, but £30 for being exposed to the elements, with miniature toilets supplemented by a handful of Portaloos, and a coffee bar the size of my old mum's larder... it's nothing short of a disgrace.

On the walk from the station you'll find the bars shut before the match because locals have tried to fight the away fans, themselves, or the nearest aggressive lamp-post.

Morgan is a WARRIOR - just got to watch the yellow cards ...

That's the sort of FIGHTING spirit that will see us up to mid-table.

WE DEMAND AND MUST WIN net week against Sunderland.

We will be in the Prince of Wales, King Alfred, Royal Oak, Mavericks, Bridge, Chapel, Joshua Tree, Waterfront, Station, Banana Wharf, and all the City RED ARMY Pubs and TOGETHER AS ONE we go to the Stadium for the 3 Points and the WIN.

Now Nigel has sorted out the Team and the Defensive set up - he should know that we will be with him every step of the way - and we go en masse to Fulham to get all 3 points.

We will be in the ZULU BAR and EIGHT BELLS and along the FULHAM ROAD.

Wet Spam are not that far ahead of us in the Table and I say ..... we aim to go above them early 2013.

We f*cking owe them at ST MARY'S..... and when they come up with their chant

They can stick their bubbles up their ****

WE MUST CONTINUE TO IMPROVE AND GET MAX POINTS AT HOME AND START TO WIN AWAY.

Predict :

Sunderland - WIN
Fulham - WIN
Stoke - DRAW
Arsenal - WIN
Villa - WIN

MORE THAN EVER - WE MUST FIGHT AND WIN.

If we aim to get players in in January - and you see the result of not buying (rock bottom reading) - then the players must be significantly better then we have already.

Villa showed today - what can be done at liverpool.

The Arsenal Game has sold out ....

WE MUST BE READY NEW YEAR'S DAY TO FIGHT FOR ALL 3 POINTS.

Arsenal Fans always run - what we must do is WIN the football.

Fulham still has tickets -but no SAINTS Fan should pay for a restricted view - there is the neutral stand as an option.

WE WILL GO FOR OUR XMAS DRINK - and then beat Sunderland - and celebrate afterwards.

WE ARE SOUTHAMPTON - THE PRIDE OF THE SOUTH.

PUT YOUR SAINTS SHIRT ON for Sunderland - for Fulham - for Stoke - for Arsenal and for Villa and GIVE EVERYTHING ON THE TERRACES.

There is some bullsh*t poster on the Saints Forum that says we don't have a terrace culture ....

WRONG ANSWER..

At the Dell and at St Mary's : Travel to AWAY Games or get yourself in Kingsland North - The Northam or Itchen North - and you have your answer.

WE ARE THE TOP SUPPORTERS IN THE SOUTH.

WE AIM TO SMASH FULHAM - Just need the Players and Manager to have the confidence and belief to get all 3 Points.

PFC winless in (9) nine games, and missed yet another penalty!
Court case delayed for another month and still no money to pay bills on a regular basis so donations from rich people? to keep them afloat.
If and when they do sort it out on Jan 15th they then have 10 points deducted, putting them bottom probably.
All they have to do then is sort the club out, pay for Farton and get 20 more players in the space of two weeks.
Every episode I say you couldn't make it up, and then it gets even more ridiculous.
Glad I support the Saints and all we have to worry about is getting more goals than Sunderland next week!

Thats the attitude...Bit strange you cant stop talking about them though, i bet you were even at their game yesterday.
Not at their game and neither were you.
I go to football games and enjoy them.
You probably do not know what a football game looks like.
Just posted the same observation on the News site, yes I do go on there and I do post commonsense, unlike yourself who only posts drivel.
yesterdays little handbags where you accused Saints fans of disrespect is about as low as you have gone so far, but I expect you will post even worse at some time or another.
You are confused as i dont post on the news site .
I am referring to the drivel where you accused Saints fans of disrespect on here to an old fella who died at Fratton after the game.
No one on here knew what you were talking about and you tried to take the moral high ground.
Mistake!
You have not earned the right to do anything like that on here as all you have posted has been insult and inuendo.
I refer to my pastime at the weekends for a couple of hours, posting on this Echo site and also on the News site.
I do not stoop to the level that you do.
I prefer to make commonsense grown up observations and allow the idiots like yourself to embarrass themselves and make stupid childish remarks.
You once again are the one confused.
Get a growedup to read the long words to you and explain them.
oooh get you, who do you think you are ? wind your neck in son.
if you dont understand get a growedup to explain....

Why not, your style is better suited to that site than this one.

I cannot see RL at WHU in a month of Sundays - he's paid well at Saints and enjoys his football. Who would want to play for Sam Allardyce - big mouth **** with an overinflated ego sees himself as some kind of legend - to say nothing of WHU like that other crap London team over in the west. It's a toss up which one has the bigger inferiority complex and the most loathsome manager. Can't wait to get WHU back at St Mary's and set the record straight.
8pts from 12 is within our grasp over the holiday period and that should put some real breathing space between us and the bottom 3. We have to get something at Stoke another team I can't stand with a manager who takes football back to the dark ages.
