FAMILIES have just a few weeks left to have their say on the future of a county’s playgrounds.

Durham County Council is reviewing its “fixed play sites”, with council chiefs saying they want to ensure they are shared more fairly and better meet the needs of communities.

A first stage public consultation is due to end on Monday, January 14.

Its results will determine the focus of a further round of consultation before final decisions are taken.

Councillor Maria Plews, the council’s cabinet member for leisure, libraries and lifelong learning, said: “We are reminding people to have their say on this important issue, which affects families across the county.

“Our aim is to ensure fair playground provision and we are keen to ensure the people’s views are taken into account.”
