Adkins: About time we had a penalty call go our way
8:50am Thursday 27th December 2012 in Sport
Nigel Adkins was delighted to see Saints finally get another penalty.
The Saints boss has been frustrated by missing out on a run of what he believes to be clear spot kicks, but saw Rickie Lambert equalise from the penalty spot at Fulham after a handball from former Saint Chris Baird.
Though there were a few Fulham complaints about a possible push on Baird but it looked a correct decision.
Adkins was delighted to see it go his way.
“I couldn’t see where I was in the dugout and I’ve not seen the replay of it but what I do know is that we should have had six penalties ourselves this season that we haven’t done,” he said.
“I’m led to believe no one has complained about it and it’s a definite penalty but I’m pleased the referee did give us a decision.”
He added: “I’m led to believe it’s a penalty and a right decision.
“We’ve been due to get a penalty because of decisions that have been stonewall.
“When you speak to assessors on the Monday they say ‘yes, it’s a stonewall penalty, the referee’s made a mistake there.’ It’s no good to us then. I’m led to believe it is a penalty so there’s no arguments there.”
There was a slight heart in mouth moment as Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer briefly looked like becoming the first man to deny Lambert from the penalty spot for Saints.
The Fulham keeper got both hands to the penalty but the power of the strike saw it home.
“Rickie takes a good penalty,” smiled Adkins.
“With the pace of the shot, obviously Mark got two hands to it but because of the power of it he wasn’t able to keep it out of the back of the net.”

Steven Davis was awful! I note in this morning's Sun he scored a 4! Why oh why NA doesn't give JWP a run out is beyond me or is it? I noted yesterday and it was clear from MOTD that NA doesn't have a clue. He was speaking with Crosby and Wilkins obviously for advice and inspiration. What does he do? He brings on Rodriguez a total waste of space and money and yes.... The dream super sub - Guly! What a joke!!!!!
Unless quality players are brought in during January I.e. two decent centre backs a good left back and a decent striker Saints are destined to be the whipping boys of the Premier League in the second half if the season!
Spider should be dropped and replaced by JWP at least he has passion and commitment sadly lacking in a team of mediocrity.
No doubt you happy clappers will object to this calling me such things as a 'skate in disguise' to those for God's sake wake up and smell the coffee - the mediocre side is heading for the Championship at this rate!!!!!!

If we had won at home against sunderland (the game we really should have won), most would have taken the fulham result with pleasure.

I agree with the views that a point away from home in this league is very decent, especially for a newly promoted side. 3 points away is excellent form.

Having been at the game I watched MOTD this morning that just confirmed the view I posted last night. Quite simply Saints were mediocre. As far as the goal was concerned it was concerning to see that Shaw just gave up and allowed the cross to be made that led to the goal. That was a howler by Kelvin!!!!

You might call me a happy clapper, but I invented that description back in October when we were blindly keeping faith with the same 11 and playing open attacking football that conceded more than we scored.
IMO we need a centreback in January and that's what we will buy or loan. Ideally a blighting midfield player and goalkeeper too but can't see that happening.

Every fan of every club in the Prem believe they belong there and so do many fans of clubs in the Championship - even a delusional club in Div1 thinks it should be. Fulham have spent alot over the years and have been in the Prem for more than ten, their fans booed the team off because they expect to beat the newly promoted teams.

I'm mot singling out Shaw yesterday e is a tremendous talent and you have to bear in mind he is only 17 but MOTD showed how easily he gave up - he effectively stopped running andcalloedcthe cross to be made that led to the goal. Had he continued running he may not have prevented the cross but e could have put the winger off! Would Ferguson tolerate such non commitment? I think not.
That's why I'm such a fan of JWP. He will run, close down the opposition, he is constantly scanning and is fully committed to winning. He got top averages re ground covered and acceleration when e featured early on in the season. His reward? To be relegated to the bench. He's appeared for 5 minutes against West Ham in the league since. Is that how NA repays such commitment? If it is then its scandalous. How s a player like him overseen but players like Guly and De Ridder played? It's beyond me? JWP has recently committed himself to five years with the club one wonders why? I've heard a number of teams are after him Liverpool being the front runners and it would be best for him career wise if he moved. That's the sad reality. If he's not going to beoksyed then I hope he's loaned out in January!!!
The team ave got to up their games considerably if they want to be playing Premiership football next season!!!!!

SaintMax wrote:Helpful post thank you. These players have got to start performing. That's why IMO you can't simply turn around and blame NA. If NA went the incoming manager would be left with the same squad. What incentive other thanbtheyvare playing in probably the best league in the world do they need to go out on the pitch and give 100 per cent? Yesterday is a classic example. There was no tempo to the casinos game. Hardly any movement when a ball is passed. Instead we resort to long ball and at times 'kick and hope' the lack of tenacity and wanting the all, of closing down opponents is obvious and worrying!

Players have good games and bad games, just like you sometimes have a bad day when your sweeping the streets.
It is also a game about opinions. I thought spider was our best player, the amnt of tackles he makes in a game is astonishing and the stats will tell you he's one of the best.
Young players need breaks, JWP got his and think shaw will soon-couple mistakes any young kid will make.
Once lalanna returns, ramierez will go back behind rickie-and I think that partnership will see us well clear of three really poor teams.
Keep the negativity away from us fans with some sense of reality !!

The transfer window only requires one signing - a top class, authoratative keeper with a proven pedigree. If NA (or NC) achieves this, survival is a given.

Could you also explain the 33 million spent on players. I make it J-Rod + Gaston = 19 million.
Where did the rest (14 million) go?
Or did you hear it from TEBOURBA" first?
