AFC Totton were the fall guys as Gosport Borough extended their impressive unbeaten run to nine Southern Premier games at Privett Park yesterday.
Steve Riley’s Stags wound up 1-0 Boxing Day losers – victims of a magnificent 19th-minute strike from former Andover and Eastleigh marksman Justin Bennett.
It was Totton’s third league game without a win but, in the eyes of manager Steve Riley, they deserved better – and would have got it but for a remarkable show of resistance from Borough keeper Nathan Ashmore.
“We deserved something out of the game, but Justin Bennett’s scored a worldy and the goalkeeper has denied us with three or four top-drawer saves,” he said.
