Saints midfielders hail Gunners draw

Daily Echo: JACK CORK JACK CORK

Saints duo Jack Cork and Morgan Schneiderlin were full of praise for their side's work rate after a 1-1 draw with Arsenal at St Mary's this evening.

Saints arguably deserved all three points after taking the lead through Gaston Ramirez in the 34th minute but were pegged back shortly before half-time when Guly do Prado could only direct Theo Walcott's free-kick into his own net.

Ramirez had the ball in the back of the net once more with an exquisite control and volley on the turn after the interval but it was chalked off for a foul in the build-up.

Midfielder Cork, who filled in at right-back today, was gutted Saints were held to a draw for their third consecutive game, but he was quick to hail the team's performance.

"It was a good point. I think we could have nicked it towards the end," Cork admitted.

"The goal was unfortunate that they scored but the lads put a real shift in today.

"We've had a real tough week, we had Stoke last game and the game before that everyone's worked really hard. It's been a busy Christmas period but we've got a few points."

Saints conceded a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 at Stoke over the weekend but Schneiderlin echoed his team-mate's thoughts.

"We knew before the game that this was going to be very hard, we knew they were going to keep possession and that we needed to keep a good shape and we did at that at times," said the Frenchman.

"We were unlucky with the goal we conceded but we gave a good shift, we gave everything for each other."

We are definitely finding our feet in this league now. Our defending as a team as improved immensely. Fonte and Yoshida have formed a good partnership. the fullbacks are young but extremely talented. If we can get a decent CB to compete with Fonte and Yoshida then that would be ideal as Jos is not PL standard. Also a left winger with real pace and crossing ability would be the icing on the cake.

The attitude, dedication and team work shown by the lads last night was superb. Aresenal were never in the game and for the first time this season with our shape and commitment we never looked like conceding to the opposition. Great credit to NA and his team for the progress that's being made now - we ought to finish the season at least 15th place.

Here Here. Shame about the own goal but the way to stop AOC and TW is not to stop the service to them and that's what we did. Corky was brilliant in an out of position full back and Morgan was brilliant in the deep midfield position - he was always after the ball and must have covered every blade of grass.

Guly had a great game - if he works hard he gets my vote. Not always been the case with him but yesterday he did try very hard.

Good point and 3 would definitely not have flattered us.

I stick to what I have said before - we are just as good as any team outside the top 8 or so. Lets hope we have a good 2nd half and see us comfortably clear from the drop zone come mid Feb.

The defence looked sound yesterday apart from Boruc, who had his moments!
Puncheon played brilliantly and was a continual threat. Midfield was great.
Guly tries hard, but he is out of his depth, lacks precision and a poor tackler. His own goal was typical and he missed the chance to win the game at Stoke.
We need a few more skilled players and less 'makeweights'.
Also still some very 'odd' substitutions going on?
JayRod continues to make no impression. De Ridder has pace, but crosses poorly.
Why bring on JWP and play him up-front when you have Mayuka on the bench????
At the moment, this season looks like 2004-5 when winning positions were turned into draws, except that the spirit of Adkins is excellent and the supporters are behind the team.
We MUST beat Villa and Wigan away to stay up.

Arsenal fans reaction to Shaws performance lol ,they dont get it,we are in the Prem now ,no need to sell u idiots
--------------------
--------------
@goonrambler: Luke Shaw is the real deal though. Sign him up, and sell Santos to a club as far away as possible.

@mralexyarde: Surely the signings of Zaha and Luke Shaw are investments for the future and not immediate improvements to the current squad #Arsenal

@kosczeboss: Crazy how Luke Shaw is just 17. Within 2-3 years, he'll be immense

@bobbybrownyo: Wonder how good Luke shaw would have looked if someone actually ran at him ?!! #oxdidnt #theodidnt #sagnacouldnt

@aman_afc: Luke Shaw looks quite a talent, we should go for him, along with a holding midfielder and an established versatile forward.

@arseneinidish: #Luke Shaw is better player than #GIBBS , with what i saw today !

@averagelyjoe: Can't say I've watched Shaw that much from what I've seen tonight if we are interested in him I'd be thrilled to have a good young LB #AFC

@dilanyogendra: Wouldn't actually mind getting Shaw.. Gibbs, defensively, doesn't instill confidence #arsenal

@mickandress: Shaw's got the OX on lock down boy he ain't moving lol #Arsenal

@seoirsemac: I don't want #arsenal to sign luke shaw if the Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
ke chant is going to come with him! Hate it!

Apart from the first three and last two sentences, I'm afraid I have to mostly disagree.
