Davis: We could have won it
3:47pm Wednesday 2nd January 2013 in Sport
Steven Davis
Saints midfielder Steven Davis admitted there was a tinge of disappointment among the players after last night's draw with Arsenal.
Nigel Adkins' side turned in an impressive display that had the Gunners' on the back foot for much of the match, which finished 1-1 at St Mary's.
While the point was a good one for the hosts, Davis admitted it could have been even more.
"We came into the game full of confidence and I thought we played really well in terms of creating chances," he said.
"They didn't really have many clear-cut openings and I thought in terms of our own balance between attack and defence we did really well.
"We thoroughly deserved a point at least and I think in the second half we kicked on a bit stronger.
"Jason Puncheon has had a few chances and I don't know if Gaston's second one should have counted or not.
"There is maybe a little bit of disappointment that we have not gone on to win the game."
Yesterday's result was Saints' third successive draw, after taking points at Fulham and Stoke.
"I think every point is going to be valuable come the end of the season," Davis added.
"It was a decent performance here and over the Christmas period.
"We were unlucky not to pick up three points from Stoke away and it was similar against Arsenal, but hopefully if we continue playing the same way we'll start turning some of those draws into wins."

Well played last night!! Same situation as the Stoke game where I would have taken a point at the start of the game but actual feel a bit down (but proud) that we didn’t get all 3 points! Such a shame Guly didn’t have that eye for goal against Stoke. We need to start getting these points on the board. If it wasn’t for errors that should have been avoided, we’d be comfortably sitting mid table.

If we can play like when we play Reading, QPR, Newcastle, Sunderland and A-Villa I fee we could stay in the Prem and we can then grow ready for the next season so COYR's we are behind you

Great to see the rapport between Chamberlain, Walcott and the crowd. They did not have to come back on like that and the crowd did not have to respond. Respect all round!!
Saying that seeing Chamber Pot Boy in that oversized coat when he came back on reminds you how young they are really. When he finally made it round to the arsenal side most of them had buggered off!
I liked Adkins response as well, we have great players still here!
It is great to support saints!!

Jack Cork MoM said the Team had been working hard and it had been tough period with games at Stoke etc
Good Stuff - this Team like to be worked hard and they perform better when they do. There is also better cohesion in the Team.
Matt Le Tiss said yesterday that Gaston will get better with more games played.
Therefore I would like to keep the momentum going and field a stong side against Chelsea and get a result.
Then get up to VILLA AWAY and WIN.
As well as the above - the Club have bought Jrod and he has nowhere near
reach his potential.
If Nigel could play him in his natural position and give him the opportunity to develop and make the improvements that all his team mates have.

The team are capable of picking up points against any team in this League.
WE DO NEED TO GET MORE WINS ON HOME TURF.
Am looking forward to smashing in goals against Wet Spam when we play them. We are better than them and should be above them in the League.
