Southampton captain Adam Lallana could miss another five games through injury
7:10am Wednesday 9th January 2013 in Sport
By Gordon Simpson, Senior Sports Reporter
Lallana injury woe continues
SAINTS captain Adam Lallana's knee injury could keep him out of action until February.
The midfielder has missed the club’s last four league matches after sustaining knee ligament damage during the 1-0 home win over Reading on December 8.
Lallana is understood to have attempted some straight-line running this week for the first time, but was unable to turn or move from side-to-side without suffering discomfort.
That means it is likely to be a number of weeks yet before he is ready to play, making it unlikely he will feature in any of the next five games.
Ideally, the club would hope to have him back in normal action on the training ground within a month from now.
However, that timescale could extend depending on how quickly the pain in his knee settles down.
Saints have so far refused to disclose how long Lallana is due to be sidelined for.
The Daily Echo reported at the time of the injury that the 24-year-old was going to miss at least the festive period, and probably more.
Lallana will certainly miss this Saturday’s trip to relegation rivals Aston Villa, as well as next Wednesday’s rearranged visit to Chelsea.
The home game against Everton on Monday, January 21, will likely come too soon as well.
Saints then have the advantage of a free weekend, as a result of being knocked out of the FA Cup by Chelsea last Saturday.
Following that is the visit to Manchester United on Wednesday, January 30, then an important trip to fellow strugglers Wigan on the first Saturday in February.
It appears unlikely that Lallana will be back in time for any of those fixtures, barring a quicker-than-anticipated recovery.

It’s not good news on the Adam front but Nigel will have to keep shuffling the pack.
I expect to see a couple of new faces arrive in this window to put an extra bit of class in the squad for the fight ahead.
We are still a young ambitious prem team looking to take it to the next level up, while I hear the skunts are now training on a subbuteo pitch.
Gotta love Groundhog Day.

Help, you know we need someone, help

But now those days are gone we’re not so self assured

If we dont buy and fill the gaps effectively it will cost us.

Not a criticism, as I would love him to be back in the team, creating and scoring goals.
Gaston will benefit from him being back in the side, as AL will draw players away from Gaston, who is the only REAL flair player left in the team, without AL.
Reference the challenge by the Reading player, I think it was an accident with the guy ending up across AL's leg.
The way AL then walked around the pitch did not give any indication as to the severity of the damage.

There are two menisci within each knee joint that are made from tough fibrocartilage - hence the use of the term cartilage for this injury.
About 40% of knee injuries to professional footballers are actually caused by lateral ankle movement and lack of support. It has been suggested that a return to basketball style ankle supporting football boots ( like in the 30s ) would almost illiminate knee injuries caused whilst the player was on the standing foot. A major boot manufacturer is currently developing a prototype boot to this effect and it has been suggested that footballers boots could be revolutionised in the not-to-distant future... just a thought...
As the knee joint bends the thigh bone usually rolls, spins and glides on the top surface of the shin bone. However, if there is rotation caused by a twist whilst the joint is bearing weight, the menisci can get jammed and nipped in between the two bones. If the force is sufficient, a tear of the meniscus will occur.
Cartilage tears are usually accompanied by pain and knee swelling. If it is a small tear if may simply settle down. However, with larger cartilage tears, the flap of torn cartilage may interfere with joint movement and cause the knee point to lock or give way.
Then an op may be needed which then needs 5 - 6 weeks recovery time.

A tarot card reader told me my horoscope next week will predict that a palm reader will foresee a crystal ball showing me opening a fortune cookie with a note inside saying Saints will finish mid-table this season. You may think this is a bit of a long shot, but I'm a big mate of Mr Du who runs our local Chinese take-away and I've given him the nod.
Nostradamus is likely on the ball vis a vis Poopey too. Mr Du's wife does Feng Shui and she says all the cardinal directions at Shatton Park are so bad that every yin and yang reading comes out as bin and pong.

Funny thing is, the skunts are turning to The Beatles, as well.
Here's their favourite fab four classics:

Yesterday (nothing else needs adding here)
(You say you want a) Liquidation
Get Back (to - League 2 - where you once belonged)
The Ballad of Guy and Balram
Of course, The Stones wrote a few for them. (This will be) the Last Time and Ain't it Black, for example.

Both the Lallana and Fonte injuries have come at a time when the window is open so thats good.
In which case now is the time for our scouting/player spotting infrascture needs to prove its worth along with NA/NC persuading the right players to join to fill the gaps.
If we dont buy and fill the gaps effectively it will cost us.
I have faith in both NC and NA however as they have both learnt over the past few difficult months.

Also rumoured is ter stegen from Borussia Monchengladbach for around 6 mil + Boruc on the plus side though i think pompey have trumped us in the transfer market this week It is rumoured Pompey are interested in bringing back former england stiker Emile Heskey from his unsuccessful stint down under. Or how about trying Lee there?? What the **** has happened to him this season?? He looked amazing when we played him last term. He's on 23k a week and he's not even in the squad yet De Ridder seems to be getting the chances (and failing).
I'll be glad when Nigel goes and we get Roberto in!!

I'll bet £50 again to the Saints Foundation that NA is still our manager at the end of the season.
Add that to the £100 Baddesley Bill and I offered on our spending more than £4M this transfer window and you could be giving £150 to charity; imagine how good that'll feel.

The 25-year-old Italian international has agreed personal terms with the south coast club, believed to be in the region of £1.6 million (€2m) per season, and is awaiting the Premier League outfit to reach agreement with their Serie A counterparts before making the move.
The Sardinian club were believed to be holding out for £11.3m (€14m) for Astori, but that figure scared off Serie A clubs and should allow the Saints to reduce the figure to around £6.5m (€8m).
MONDAY TRANSFER ROUNDUP
6.50
Southampton are 6.50 with bet365 to draw 1-1 at Aston Villa this weekend
It is expected that Astori will also have a similar clause inserted to his contract as Gaston Ramirez did, allowing the Italian to leave for £6.5m (€8m) if the Premier League strugglers are relegated.

Pompey in Spain (and a handful of others; we all know who) can come on here and have a good laugh about football, which I relish; bit of a wind up and general good chit chat.
Then you get utter, total mongs like Kent, Redandy, Fivepoundsbetweenus et al who just post tedious, unfunny drivel. They think they are hilarious but they are in a minority of one on that front. And what's worse is that people on here rise to it. They try to engage with people who don't even have the IQ of a rice pudding.
I feel sorry for them; genuinely sorry. If it were my club disappearing I'd be distraught. If I were them I'd be out trying to raise pledges by whatever means or offering to help the PST to try to help my club to survive but they are too retarded to understand what's going on so they come to the only place where anyone takes any notice of them. It's tragic. And people on here engage with them!

with lallana out for another 5 games we cant afford not for the club to get replacements in tommorow or friday so they can play against villa, either benayoun or courtinoor even matty phillips, though we should sign him in the summer, either way with out lallana the team aint the same, inereting that were willing to sign some dude for 12 mil for cover for adam, makes newcastles supposed 5 mil bid look even more comical

So, I'm in from this moment. Are you, Osprey? You have to be 100% committed and NEVER engage in any way with them under any circumstances. Can you manage that for all of us?

NC clearly likes to keep close tabs on what's going on and Saggychops is (judging by the trail of destruction he's left everywhere he's been) a loose cannon. They would kill each other.
I'd be simply astounded if NC would ever have considered it.

with lallana out for another 5 games we cant afford not for the club to get replacements in tommorow or friday so they can play against villa, either benayoun or courtinoor even matty phillips, though we should sign him in the summer, either way with out lallana the team aint the same, inereting that were willing to sign some dude for 12 mil for cover for adam, makes newcastles supposed 5 mil bid look even more comical

Only if we are relegated or look to be should the change be made.
...do that and match day beers (and soft drinks for your kid/kids) are on me!
Will try and meet up for beers, did station (before) and Josh tree (after) Sunderland game.
You may find this suprising....but we are genuine Saints fans who don't always agree on everything...but are really ok about it.
Ps...if you can get Slugger to buy a round, you're ok by me! :O)

Well, we're got a starting list from Slugger:
"Kunt , 5 troughs , insanitysoul , caughtredhandedandy/

That'll do, and you can put others up for membership as required. Jury's still out on MoronGlory for me.
To be honest, if the usual suspects on here now ignored just that lot, the number of comments on each thread would halve and those long-tedious requotes of requotes would disappear. Might even be worth reading the comments....
However, rule one of Shhh! club is ,,, well, you know rule one.
Do us all a favour and find some other site where you can post your inane unintelligible diatribe.

Really frustrated that deals aren't getting down quicker but is that in Adkins hands?
I blame their inability to play football on the lack of vitamin D - it means they prefer to stay in the pub rather than get out and exercise. Can't tell why I like it here, can you? ;-)
