Luke Shaw pledges to sign long term deal with Southampton
8:45am Thursday 10th January 2013 in Sport
Luke Shaw
HIGHLY-rated Saints fullback Luke Shaw has pledged his long-term future to the club.
The 17-year-old has been the subject of intense transfer speculation, with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea all interested in signing him.
But Shaw has revealed that he plans to remain a Saints player, and is likely to commit himself to a new contract when he turns 18 next summer.
That is the age at which players can sign five-year deals, as midfielder James Ward-Prowse did last year.
Shaw, who currently has a contract that runs until 2015, told the club's official website: "I have spoken with the chairman about a long term plan for me at the club.
"To put an end to all the speculation, I will be committing my future to Southampton. I’m not going anywhere.
"I think Southampton is the place to be for young kids like me. I’m playing in the Premier League for the First Team and that is all anyone wants to be doing, so I just want to carry on."
Shaw added: "If you look back over the years, Adam [Lallana] has come through the youth system and now he is the captain of the first team, and Prowsey (James Ward-Prowse) has just signed a five-year deal – and that is what I want to be doing."

Anyone else following Luke on twitter? It's amazing - you think you're going to get some great insight into the inner workings of SFC but what you actually get is a 17-year-old (for that is what he is) saying things like "Aren't cheese toasties lush?" and that sort of thing. It's funny to think that for all the machiavellian scheming and planning and science-assisted training regimes that we on these pages are trying desperately to understand, what is mainly happening is that a decent bunch of young lads are working hard and having a bit of a laugh.

Luke Shaw is a loyal Southampton Player.
He is not going to sell out or engineer a move to a club like Arsenal that do not seem capable of winning silverware any more. Some of the reason for Arsenal's failure is keeping a Manager that is past his sell by date in terms of delivering. Selling RVP to Manure shows that he has sold his soul to the Directors and puts money above Glory and the Fans.
On to THE MIGHTY SOUTHAMPTON.
You can understand fans wanting to keep our Manager and being prepared to forgive his mistakes. When the Saints were in reverse due to the finances - changing Managers and getting in mercenary players did not work.

On the Subject of Keepers. When there is so much to improve on the pitch - then what are the priorities... ? We have a mismatch system at the moment - but getting in a TOP KEEPER gets you points in the Season - but that alone is not enough.

Still no moves by NC and our top defender and captain both injured,Saints need to make some moves and not wait until the end of window
In the summer we were not shy in paying big fees and, based on reports, we will not be shy in paying big fees this window either.
By the looks of it we will be spending at least £10 million and I'd be surprised if we didn't, but the whole key is getting these players in the right areas and using our budget to give us the best possible range of options at the back, so we are prepared for any eventuality and don't have to limp through when we pick up injuries.
I don't advocate paying silly money for players not worth the money, but as I've said, there are plenty of bargains in January if you look closely, they just don't make the headlines like a £10 million Italian or £50 million Torres might.
As I've said, yes clubs hold others to ransom when they have no reason to sell, but there are also loads of clubs that need to make space in their squads in January and, unlike us, some of those clubs have real quality on their bench and in their reserves that they would happily sell on the cheap.

I hope more and more youngsters will realise that the grass isn't necessarily greener at a bigger club. In my view far too many, especially English, players are totally wasting their talent and potential by losing their most important years of development on the bench.
Walcott and the Ox - according to the press they've come on leaps and bounds at Arsenal.
I tend to disagree. Would be very interested to see how much more confident Theo would be in himself every game (not just the odd one) if he hadn't moved so quickly.
Nice one Luke and special mention to Adam Lallana, who's been an example to any young kid coming through.
Also to Nigel for making him captain - again sending out a fantastic message to our kids.

The reality is we need three quality players to give us a chance of survival. Our squad is woefully thin on quality once you get past the first 13-14 players.
Remember tv money goes up by 20m a club in July with the new TV deal. No one can afford to go down.
Villa have moved for Courtinho the only club to put in a bid so far, turned down expected to return with renewed offer.
Other teams around us are all signing players, we need to step up to the plate, I am sure we will.
Will the Hoover play middle of the back Saturday or will the versatile jack Cork be played there, a position he has p[layed before. Or will we see Aron Martin get his premier debut.
On saturday? The two youngest squads in the premier face each other.

QPR - thrashed by Liverpool, absolutely gutless performance.
Totally committed against Chelsea away three days later, won it largely because the opposition thought they would get an easy game.
Villa if nothing else are seriously committed and, due to their age, you never know what you will get.
Unless we go their earning the right to play as NA would put it and anticipating a fierce battle, we will lose. If we avoid that pitfall, we will win.
Benteke will cause us problems, as will a Agbonlahor and the Austrian lad.
Bit of a cliche, but we really need to turn the crowd by retaining the ball well for the first 30 minutes or so and getting in hard when we lose it, avoiding silly freekicks.
Chelsea will be similar. Points to be had if we ride out the onslaught and concentrate 100%.

There are many hardcore fans - some go in bright .. ly coloured pubs like the JOSHUA TREE and mix with Away Fans (like the CHAPEL which is a mixture ?)
YEAR ON YEAR - The TOP PUBS are the PRINCE OF WALES and KING ALFRED with about 10 other locations good drinking holes for hard core passionate Supporters - (including THE NORTHAM CLUB !!)
The Station (remember Gossie in the League One Campaign) and Josh are what they are ... further down the Table - with die hard SAINTS SUPPORTERS.
Read some posts from some plastics .. about good AWAY SUPPORT.
ANYONE WHO WAS AT BIRMINGHAM AWAY LAST YEAR knows about good Away Support.

The odds may be good for a Draw - but WE GO TO AWAY GAMES TO WIN.

What a perfect time to play Villa, their players will be fragile and their crowd nervous, bring it on.
I smell blood and sense another QPR away day outcome.
The skunts may have managed to get the only Arab without any shekels, but it turns out Villa managed to get the only Yank without any dollars (or at least not willing to spend them). Take a bow Randy Lerner.
When you have a silly named CEO like Randy or Rupert what can possibly go wrong?
Everyone finds their level eventually...
Good news about Luke - shows how much we've evolved in such a short space of time when our youngsters are proud to don the shirt.

COME ON NIGEL - UP THE PREMIER LEAGUE WE GO !!
On the Subject of Keepers. When there is so much to improve on the pitch - then what are the priorities... ? We have a mismatch system at the moment - but getting in a TOP KEEPER gets you points in the Season - but that alone is not enough.
A Keeper like Jack - with his name alone is more suited to an Average Championship side like Brighton.
WE ARE MORE AMBITIOUS THAN THAT.
On the subject of EUROPE :
The Chairman - the Manager Nigel - and the Fans are ambitious.
One of the posters in the last few days went all brighton and was telling another Saints Fan .... you can stick Europe up your ****
The fact is there are some that want to drag THE NUMBER ONE CLUB IN THE SOUTH to the days when Premiership survival was good enough only.
