Luke likely to miss Saints' Chelsea trip

Luke Shaw Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw looks like missing out on a dream appearance at Stamford Bridge after badly gashing his knee at Aston Villa.

The 17-year-old left back, who last week committed his long term future to Saints, was stretchered off towards the end of the 1-0 victory at Villa Park.

After the game Nigel Adkins confirmed the gash to Shaw’s right knee was a bad one.

That is likely to mean a short spell on the sidelines for the boyhood Chelsea fan.

“He’s got a very badly gashed right knee which is quite swollen,” reported Adkins, who has Danny Fox on stand-by to deputise.

“There are also quite a lot of scars on his left knee where the challenge was.

“We’ve got an excellent medical department and we will see what the diagnosis is.

“We’d like to think it’s nothing more than a very heavy challenge but we will wait and see.

“It’s quite a big blow he took to his knee.”

And the dirty villa players gave the Ref some much Sh-t for stopping play when Luke was hurt. Would have be different if the boot was on the other foot. The Ref should have book those villa's players they must of seen his injury.

He'll get plenty of chances to play at Stamford Bridge, not to mention the rest of the top premiership destinations. Hopefully with Saints for at least five more years, but if not, surely with another top top side if the unthinkable happens to us.

Meanwhile, protect the Shaman! England demands that we must.

The big fear is beginning to happen. Injuries start to bite into the squad. I would totally rest Adam Jose Luke and Gaston until after the Man Utd game. Can only (realistically) see us getting 1 point from the next three games anyway. Then it will be like 4 new players and the CB and winger we buy for the rest of the season.

Let's hope he's fit asap not the end of the world he misses wednesdays game anything picked up will be bonus points and if i'm honest if we still finish the game above the geordies who are 2 goals behind us on GD it won't be the worst result.

The referee did extremely well to make the decision he did to stop play and not just usher him off the pitch. The Villa players and the crowd were just angry that it looked like time wasting when in fact it was serious. I take my hat off to the referee for not buckling under presure.

CRIPES!
Running out of players. Still, best it happens against a team that are likely to beat them anyway.

First time saw Shaw play a full game and thought he was outstanding. Probably my Man of the match.

Villa players were disgraceful when he went down making out he was feigning injury. Villa fans also need to take a look at themselves by giving him stick and booing. Even when he was being stretchered passed them noone even clapped.

I noticed a number of wrecklass tackles by Villa on Saturday.
None more so that the flying tackle that their right back did on Steeeeeev.
It was 2 footed and off the ground.
If Steeeeev hadn't jumped he would have been in hospital.
Credit the ref he allowed the game to flow but there are times to show the cards.

Now that they have medical evidence that Shaw was injured, can someone contact Sky Sports and Tony Cottee in particular, and ask him to retract his comment about "players feigning injury to get the game stopped", when he was asked to report on why the Villa players were kicking off when the ref stopped the game.

At no time, after the incident, did Cottee have the decency or character to acknowledge that, on this occasion he had called it wrong, and that Shaw had left the field on a stretcher.

Come on Cortese, he has disrespected your team.

HORSE'S HEAD TIME!!!

Yes, their manager would do better to analyse the madness of his players tackling, than worrying too much about one instant in the game. Their general recklessness was no doubt taken in context of said incident. In other words: serves you right, Villa!!

The Villa fans were quiet throughout - except when Luke was injured, booing him for time wasting and the ref for stopping play. Disgraceful. I thought the ref missed a number of late tackles; not just the one on Luke (no free kick) but also ones on Gaston, Jay and Steeve. Anyhow justice prevailed; Saints won on and off the pitch. great day out

Kelv for Boruc? Seriously, did you not see the Villa game? Kelv is no longer safe hands, and is not good enough for the PL.
