An obvious no brainer. He is a big old unit and the decision to rest him was sound. We were always likely to have a better chance of 3 points at home to Everton than of getting anything at Chelski. The fact that he came on late and changed the game for us was a huge bonus. If the new man wants the fans on his side it wouldn't be a very good plan to leave our talisman out.

I wonder about who he will play in goal - I think Gazza might be in with a shout!
This thing about him not speaking English - Gazza and Ramirez all have "football" English to make him right at home!
It's all about bringing home the bacon - so 3-points Monday night is a must!

Rickie is obviously going to play! But more important is that we fans continue supporting whoever is playing and whoever is manager. Nigel Adkins is a very good part of Saints past. But he is already history and we should now be looking positively to the future. We fans support a very ambitious club, which is years ahead of its five year plan of being in the Premier League. And now, along with the appointment of the new manager comes the expectation of better than merely Premiership survival. Our club is going onward and upward and we should trust the ambitious plans of the owners and Nicola Cortese, as they have not thus far let us down. Mr. Cortese is doing what the owners want and they trust him to do it. Just think back a short while to the dark days of the Rupert Lowe era and compare them with what we have now. I know which gets my vote! I'll be continuing to support the best squad of players Saints have had in years, no matter who plays and no matter who is manager. We have a new manager to welcome, so never mind the white hankie protest. Let us blow our noses and get on with it. Besides, we have a new player to welcome, too. Vegard Forren should be a good addition to our improving squad. Come on you reds!!!

A statement as daft as your spelling, this game will see a Nigel Adkins XI in whatever format they are presented, and you, whatever your opinions, should be backing them, we won't know what MPs strategy will be until he has his feet firmly under the table. It is so easy to be judgemental when you are totally ignorant of any facts, but there is also a strong chance you could be wrong.

I really don't recall anyone slating the appointment of Adkins. yes we were shocked at Pardew going but nowhere near as shocked as we are now. This is different. That said we are all pretty fickle and a few decent results and signings will be happy again. It's a massive uneccesary risk though.

a manager must be judged by how well he does compared to the resorses he has. NA did a fantastic job over last two years, but he did have the best squad in both promotion years. IMO the best manager in the prem is moyes for results with a limited squad. Befor that curbishly at charlton worked wonders. A lot of NA's squad he inherried. I do wonder if NC feels, with the resorses available NA has not moved the squad on. IMO there are severell positions were we do not have cover of any quality at the moment and players are out of position.

After the initial shock and anger I think we all have to take a step back and be realistic. Earlier in the season I was one of the minority voices that felt NA was not up to the Premiership, and should perhaps give way. However, I admit I was wrong. Over the last few weeks I have seen a turn round which is solely to the credit of NA. I was therefore a bit dismayed to hear yesterday's news.

I know nothing about the new manager, but the manager he now is. The bottom line of all this is that we are, surely, fans and supporters of Southampton Football Club, and we all want to see a successful SFC - I certainly do.

What we must NOT do is shout our disapproval of Cortese or the new manager from the stands. Look what has happened at Chelsea where the so-called supporters scream abuse at their manager, Rafa Benitez. The result? Lousy performances at home, because the players are distracted and nervous. Do we want this atmosphere for Saints? I don't think so.

So, Monday night, let's give the team and the new manager a warm welcome onto the Park, and back them all the way. Otherwise we gift Everton (and successive visiting teams!) the three points.

Let's get real, accept the situation 'cos there's nothing we can do to change it. I shall cheer 'my' Saints on regardless. I want them to climb the table and eventually be challenging up among the 'big boys.' Yes, that may have happened under NA, but we shall never know. The present is what we have to accept.

I thank NA for the fantastic job he has done at SFC. In my view he is one of our greatest and most successful managers ever, and we owe him a huge debt. I'm sure he will walk into another job very soon, and I have no doubt he will come back and haunt us one day!

Get back to me in a couple of weeks when all this lunacy's died down, i'm feeling rather numb right now-just proves -yet again-you can have more than sense.
Boo f-ing hoo.... maybe just maybe Cortese wants us to be a bigger club than Adkins can handle...grow with the club saints fans and stop living in the past.

Its happened.........now get over it. Move on with the new Manager. Is it Saints or being nice to people that counts. Thats business and life in general. Everyone went ape when Pardew was sacked. Now look where we are. Now is the next level, if not Cortese will look f*cking silly. And I know he won't want that.

A statement as daft as your spelling, this game will see a Nigel Adkins XI in whatever format they are presented, and you, whatever your opinions, should be backing them, we won't know what MPs strategy will be until he has his feet firmly under the table. It is so easy to be judgemental when you are totally ignorant of any facts, but there is also a strong chance you could be wrong.

if we do not get 3 points monday the fans will turn quick.many players will ask for a transfere if not requested one already.simple fact everton game will make or break the club.
Completely disagree. Cortese has always wanted us to achieve a European place and with no top flight experience NA MAY never have achieved that, but we will never know. Cortese does know what he is doing. The saints fans were the same when pardew was sacked. Us fans have short memories! We were shocked about pardew and slated Adkins yet we had the best 2 seasons after that! I think the same will happen again
Another good quote. Some Saints fans have really short memories.

I'm not sure that a single game will make or break us: Players are unlikely to ask to leave after a single game.

I suspect he has until the end of this season before players start to consider their options.
Exactly. Up Saints really does need to get a reality check. Do you not really understand about clubs progressing in all aspects of the game.

Get over NA going. It's the past. Get ovet yourself and support the new regime.

Good post. Let some of us move on with the appreciation of NA, but necessarily the complete adoration that some people have on here. One game previously had we lost, he would have gone anyway. He rode his luck and I'm sure he was aware of his predicament.

does make me laugh at everyone proclaiming adkins is a great manager then saying that NC picks the team.
NA picked the team, he picked the subs, he picked the tactics, he was great at it and we loved him for it. just because adkins picked a player you didnt rate (guly/fox) does not mean NC picked the team. i liked adkins and his style of management but he is not the manager now, whats happened could turn out to be great for the club, however it might turn out to be awful, time will tell. what wont help is if the fans start booing all through the games, like chelski. we have to get behind the new manager and team and help keep saints in the prem. the media are having a go at us right now so lets not give them any more ammunition.

Yep..genuine feeling aside those who hate NC have no grasp on reality..we are here because of him...he goes, money goes..then what?

I will always believe in NA but Cortese has not got it wrong yet..the problem each fan has to come to terms with is NA gave us the decent club we want...NC is aiming higher and it a'int nice up there..

I really don't recall anyone slating the appointment of Adkins. yes we were shocked at Pardew going but nowhere near as shocked as we are now. This is different. That said we are all pretty fickle and a few decent results and signings will be happy again. It's a massive uneccesary risk though.
Agree that this decision of changing managers at this point is very risky. It demonstrates ambition for Southampton FC, taking us into a new era, but also demonstrates a reckless streak. This gamble could be very costly if it does not come off. It is sad to see the passing of the old Southampton with this ruthless decision. People forget we were runners up in the old First Division in 83/84 and have played in Europe. We could have done so in the future and kept the old values of the 'Southampton way' but now we will never know. Good luck to the Saints team and our new manager for Monday night . And good luck to Nigel in his new job, and thanks for the ride.

I can forsee alot of fringe players disappearing slowing and I think it may start with the back four, I think lambert, lallana, ramirez and shaw etc being the backbone of the rebuild and they may stay for the foreseeable, I have always maintained that if lambert was younger he would have been an international player (he knocks spots off carroll). Lets hope that NC has made the right choice and it pushes SFC on to higher things.

I have heard that one of the reasons Adkins was sacked, was that he objected to the proposed sale of Lambert to Newcastle. Also I heard that De matteo turned down the job. I hope that this is not true but only rumors?

I fear that clean soccer, may be the first casualty.I hope this crop of players keep their very high standards I fear that pinochio might cause the bus to splutter and stall. Then you will see the true vindictiveness of the British press imitating a pack of sharks in a feeding frenzy. Spanish soccer right now is broke as is Italy. Expect more Europeans not less to get involved in our game , follow the money. NC is a total Banker, or so it says on his cv.he talks the talk can he walk the walk.

So we have a new manager ,hence why we have been slow in the transfer window.
Does the recent turn of events and MP's press conference mean that we have been after his transfer targets rather than NA's transfer targets
